I was very displeased when Basil did not wish to forfill a to go order for me. My co-workers and I eat there @ least once a week but now I will take my business to PFChang or Jasm...

was this a joke? 10/1/2011

My family and I decided to try Basil for the first time on my mother's birthday. This was our first mistake. As soon as we got there, the hostess was extremely awkward - my father called ahead to make reservations and she was extremely short & rude to him. He mentioned it being my mother's birthday once we got there and the hostess had nothing to say, just ""Oh"" and walked away. On the way to being seated, we walked past where you can see inside the kitchen. A blonde waiter was standing with a couple other employees pretending to HUMP THE AIR as we walked by - mind you, my 90 year old grandfather was with us. I wanted to puke, I was so mortified. it took 45 minutes for 5 plates to come out of the kitchen. I guess we should have eaten before we came? Absolutely ridiculous. My mom, being as it was her birthday, ordered the talapia at the $25 market price. Her fish came out with it's bone-filled tail curved in a disgusting c-shape and head still attached. This would have been quite ""fancy"" if the dish didn't smell like rotten, burning fish from a garbage can. It was covered in a chunky red sauce that was so hot my mother couldn't even taste it - she scraped it off eventually and tried the fish and knew immediately it had gone bad. I found 3 short black hairs in my Basil's wide noodle dish - when my father complained about mine & my mother's meal to the manager (whom he had to ask 2 different people to see & she took 20 minutes to finally show up at our table) she asked me to SEE THE HAIRS. as if I would stow them away on the side of my plate? Also, if you see the green leaf it apparently means spicy - my brother & I both got spicy dishes knowing we liked spicy foods. However, the food was so hot we couldn't even taste our food & downed 3 glasses of water. Both of us had to run to the restrooms to cool off, it was so unbearable to eat. They should really warn you JUST how spicy there food will be. When the waiter asked how it was, we were honest saying we weren't happy at all & he was completely silent, just took our dishes and left. We had brought my mother's birthday cake to eat at the restaurant but felt so uncomfortable eating it there we took it back home. The manager took mine & my mother's dishes off the tab but showed absolutely no concern for just how awful our experience was. We were ignored, overlooked, and no one, quite frankly, gave a damn about our experience or my mother's birthday. I will never come back here again & warn any new comer to steer clear. Hopefully they will get entirely new management & employees or be shut down for good. My mother's entire birthday experience was ruined by spending 3 hours in this place being neglected. I still feel horribly about it. more

Great Pad Thai! 5/22/2011

Basil is a little asian bistro near the Cool Springs area that I tried for the first time when a friend recommended meeting there for dinner. Since then, I have gone out of my way to eat there whenever I am in the area. My absolute favorite is the Pad Thai. It is based on the authentic pad thai recipe, but uses a thinner noodle, and is very tasty. I have tried pad thai other places and thought that Basil's version tops them all. The price for an individual dish is fair, though the sushi is a bit expensive. The service is pretty good, and the atmosphere is nice for a business lunch, date or friends getting together. more

Good Sushi / Thai food 4/18/2011

Service is good, food is good and the location is very easy to get in and out. my only complaint was they do not have a liquor licenses and only serve beer and wine, otherwise it's a great spot for dinner with friends. more

Disappointing Customer Service 2/16/2011

I was very displeased when Basil did not wish to forfill a to go order for me. My co-workers and I eat there @ least once a week but now I will take my business to PFChang or Jasmines. It was 6:15p and the restaurant was not crowded, there were empty tables and spots at the bar, but I was told I could come back and place an order after 7:45p or so. Really!???! I think not. more

Fresh 9/3/2010

I did not make reservations, and they were still able to get us in on a busy night in about 20 mins. Staff left alone to converse instead of trying to be my new best friend. We were sat in the back area that was much more private, with perfect candle lighting. The sushi was amazing, and I highly recommend the Signature Noodle Tofu. It is a bit spicy but unique flavor. They were sold out of several of the desserts, so we had to have second choice of a torte...I was glad. more

This was AWFUL! 8/15/2010

After 30 min wait (which made us think we were in for a treat) we were seated at a table by a wall, with light from the bathroom/exit door hallway our only light. Our greasy spring rolls were served hot, but no napkins or silverware. Had to flag down the server to get those. Basil Signature Noodle with chicken was tasty but noodles were MUSH. My friend could not eat her beef dish. I took the remains home and will try for lunch today. One of us had to stand up and walk out to get the attention of our server even though the place was emptying out so that we could order Green Tea Brulee. It arrived fresh hot on top from melting the sugar but that meant it also warmed up the cream brulee. The taste was good though it wasn't as thick as we've usually had plus was a strange temperature from the hot top to the cold bottom. At $45 we aren't willing to give this place a second try. If we want GOOD THAI food we'll return to the SMILING ELEPHANT for the genuine article. more

Best Sushi, Best Thai Food 7/21/2009

Japanese sushi presentation is nice, I am hooked on the Salmon banana leaf wrap entree. Really great deserts.. Pros: Fresh Sushi, High end Thai food Cons: Not Open on Sundays more

Great food and excellent service! 2/11/2008

I have been going to Basil Asian Bistro since shortly after they opened and it remains one of my favorite places. I have never been disappointed! The decor is clean and contemporary, and the staff are friendly and helpful. I?ve tried several dishes on the menu and each time I try something new, it makes my decision the next time all the more difficult. Everything is so good and the presentation is well done! My favorites include the Green Curry and Panang curry dishes, as well as the Ginger Shrimp, and Basil?s Chicken. For a light appetizer, I really enjoy the Cucumber Salad. The Summer Rolls are generous, and the Hot and Sour and Coconut soups are also terrific! For dessert I would suggest the Banana Spring Rolls. Enough said before I end up posting the whole menu. Prices are very reasonable. more

Absolute best spring rolls anywhere! 3/28/2007

The vegetables in the spring roll appetizer were the absolute freshest I have ever tasted (you know...just the right bit of crunch; not mushy) and were seasoned perfectly. The beef dish I decided to try was exquisite (I think it was szechuan beef)! The beef was really tender and cooked just right. My only teeny-tiny complaint is the table we were seated at wobbled really bad. Other than that, it was a great experience. The food was really, really, good and I would highly recommend it for something different with a bit of flair! Pros: Variety and freshness of food Cons: Needs music (or just turned up a tad bit) more
