A fine bookstore 11/2/2005

This Barnes & Noble is a bit away from the central shopping district of Modesto. Being the only B&N it is frequently crowded but they have a wonderful Saturday Program for the kids and the attached Starbucks is a nice addition (also very crowded). It is a great place to be on a rainy afternoon. No one bothers you. You can read there all afternoon if you wish. The employees seem to really like books, too. The checkout line can get a bit long on the weekends and of course, during the holiday season but that is to be expected. more

Not My Choice for Books in Modesto 6/4/2005

Competition is a great thing in the national book market. Unfortunately for Barnes & Noble, Borders has them beat. In addition to being up on McHenry rather than near the Freeway, I find the staff inaccessible. Translated - that means they like to hide. It's not always easy to find what I'm looking for, they don't enough seating and they have an entrance into a Starbucks that tends to be populated by punk teenagers. The restrooms frequently are not clean. Honestly, this is the only book store I have ever visited where I walked into a restroom and was greeted by a turd on the floor. more

Great Reading 5/31/2005

This Barnes & Noble has a great selection of books. There are several places to sit down and have a drink while you browse through your book selections. It's a great way to spend an afternoon. more
