The steaks are out of this world!!! Very friendly staff, Great cocktails i also loved the salads!!! Dessert is also very very good ! Worth every penny!!!

Worst

I've been here twice now and wasn't impressed. The decor isn't anything special, the service isn't great, and the food is o.k. yet they charge such high prices. It wasn't the wo...

Fantastic food, ambience, and service 12/16/2006

Shocked to actually see a negative review on here. With all of the amazing restaurants in Philly (and there are numerous), Barclay Prime stands out as one of the best. Not stuffy like your run of the mill Capital Grilles, RC's or any other overpriced steakhouse....great retro design and comfortable plush couches... Pros: steak, apps, ambience Cons: can't afford to eat it every night more

Wonderful food ... fantastic service! 10/5/2006

The best steakhouse in Philadelphia. Operates like a well-oiled machine, fantastic service, and the food is fantabulous! I can't say enough good things about it :) Pros: Excellent food, excellent service! Cons: couldn't find one con more

Best restaurant in the City 6/21/2006

Our meal was unbelievable! So much better then the other steakhouses. The butter poached lobster was the best I've ever had. The ribeye was perfect. Service best in the city. Amazing wine list. The best part...not stuffy at all! Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Can't wait to go back. Pros: lobster, steaks, service more

Best In Philly 6/2/2006

This was the best dining experience I've had in Philly. Simply amazing food, professional service, wonderful. Say what you will about Steven Starr, but he has outdone himself this time. If you appreciate fine cuts of steak, do not pass this up. Make sure to bring your credit card though- it will cost you. Pros: High Quality Food, Professional Service Cons: Expensive more

OH MY NY STRIP 5/4/2006

My life partner and I were so impressed that we went back the next night. I had the shrimp cocktail and he had the chopped salad. The shrimp are enormous. The chopped salad was so refreshing. If you like aged beef you must have the NY strip steak. A piece of heaven, but don't forget to order the 20 ounce ribeye (it melts in your mouth). You have to order the sundae and sorbets. If you are into wine like we are, you must spend some time and go over the 20 page list of juice. Pros: Fabulous food, Stellar service, Chic decor more

Hip & sexy 5/4/2006

My wife and I dined at Barclay Prime last weekend. I still can't believe a steakhouse could be this good!!! From the moment we walked through the front door, we knew we were in for one of the best dining experiences we would ever have. Every detail was just right (service, food, atmosphere, etc.). Look out Capital and Morton's. This one beats you on all counts. Pros: Attention to detail, Top-notch service, Amazing food quality Cons: Where have you been? more

Best Dinner I've Had In A Long Time 5/4/2006

My husband and I took my parents to Barclay Prime when we were in Philly visiting from NYC. We immediately loved the restaurant. We had a drink in the very sexy lounge before dinner. We had dinner in the dining room on one of those tables with the couches. The seating was so comfortable and the room was breathtaking, very different from the typical steakhouse. The server was friendly and impecable, didn't miss a beat. The steaks were the best we've had (better than any NY steakhouse). We ordered an array of different items to share and each one was better than the next. Overall, we ate and felt like kings and queens. We can't wait to go back !!! Pros: Food, Service, Decor Cons: None, None, None more

Fabulous food -- worth it as a splurge 3/21/2006

Barclay Prime served up the best filet I have had in a lifetime of steak loving. And the truffle mashed potatoes were spectacular! Our server was attentive without being pushy and answered every question on que. He was a doll -- even if the people refilling water glasses were a bit reachy (ie stretched over the table rather than asking for the glass or sneaking around us). The wine list covered all the bases with good selections ranging in price from about $40 up to well past my mortgage payment. Overall an impressive dinner with a great vibe. Definitely a great location for either a romantic splurge or a power lunch. more

I should have been here sooner 3/10/2006

We had heard about Barclay opening last year, but the hype over the '$100 Cheesesteak' blinded us to what Barclay Prime really is - a GREAT Restaurant. No, we didn't order the fabled kobe cheesteak, but one was served at the table next to ours - and it looked and smelled fabulous. What they don't tell you is that it comes with a half bottle of Veuve champagne - so, I guess the $100 is something of a bargain. From the moment we stepped into the Barclay, we were amazed by the understated opulence of the surroundings, and the friendliness of the staff and managers. The guests were obviously enjoying themselves too. I'm coming back for lunch next week. The menu seems to be a trimmed down version with even better pricing. Go ahead, treat yourself! Pros: wine list, quality, service Cons: noise level more

A top Philly restaurant 6/28/2005

I have dined at Barclay four times and have been satisfied with my meal and service everytime. From the Stephen Starr atmosphere of coed bathrooms and couch like seating, this restaurant is a must. I order the featured ribeye steak as well as the to die for lobster bisque soup. Besides the food, I thoroughly enjoy picking out my knife of choice to cut into my steak. Highly recommended! Pros: Ambience, Food, Service Cons: Pricey more

Just okay! 6/13/2005

Went with my husband to celebrate our anniversary last weekend. As soon as the head waiter found out that we don't drink alcohol we kind of got the brush off. Never heard any of the specials. We heard him telling another table after we had eaten. The onion rolls served were a little over heated. The bottoms of the rolls were hard (as if they were heated in a microwave.) The food ordered was good. Steak was better than the lamb chops. We thought it was just a little too pricey at $190 without alcohol. This was my second time at Barclay. First time was much better. Don't know when or if I would go back. Pros: beautifully appointed, good steak Cons: toooo expensive more

Yummy....my kind of steakhouse 3/17/2005

A boutique steakhouse? Well......the beef is about as good as you good south of Sparks in NYC. Ambience is like a modern liberary with your grandmother's chandeliers above your head. Service is OK, but do not let it stop ya. There is a sheekness of criticizing this place, but Barclay Prime is a refreshing view of what my idea of a steakhouse is. Pros: STEAK, WINE LIST Cons: Service (sometimes) more

Very Expensive Nice Experience But . . . 2/22/2005

The atmosphere is elegant and warm in both the bar area and dining room. The Staff is very accommodating. The food, although good, does not live up to the expense. A shared Ahi tuna appetizer with ponzu sauce was enjoyable, as were the sides accompanying our entrees (truffled potatoes and creamed spinach). The Signature rib eye steak (at $42) was merely good when compared to a far superior Porterhouse served at another Phila. steak house. With 2 drinks and a bottle of wine, the bill, with tip, came to $240. We will come back to try their lunch special but most likely not for dinner. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Very Expensive more

Good service, fine menu and excellent steak. 2/18/2005

I took my husband here for his birthday and was pleasantly surprised by Barlay Prime. I was so fed up with gimmicky Steven Starr restaurants that I had my doubts, but this one is an exception. The steak was excellent and the wine list ample. The service was courteous, and the staff well trained. It is a bit of a scene, but if you don't pay attention to the stilletoed NY wannabees, it can be a pleasant experience. Pros: Less pretentious, Good steak, Great wine Cons: Scene more

Truly an Experience 1/7/2005

Everything on the menu was divine. The truffle whipped mashed potatoes are amazing. Both desserts we ordered were excellent as was the steak. I was very impressed by the service. Even for Starr, service was exceptional. It was a bit expensive, but worth it for a real opulent evening. Pros: great service, flavorful dishes, romantic more
