Best

I am in love with this place. A true LA bookstore.

Worst

Although these theatres are fancy with plush seats they have made an embarressment of their employees. They force them to wear overdone costumes with hats that only an organ grind...

The only Place I go see my movies 12/26/2008

This is the only place I go see my movies, it's big, beautiful, love the crowds, I've been coming here for a few years, and honestly, watch one film here and you'll see. Pros: everything Cons: the prices of movies on weekend nights more

Great hangout place for anyone 12/18/2008

I love bringing out of town guest to The Grove to get a good sample of LA life. it's more than a mall. it's a spectacular hangout place where there is something for everyone!! more

A Great Spot for ALL Occasions! 11/24/2008

My parents especially my father make the Grove the Number 1 spot to visit after leaving the airport. It has a great and inviting environment for families, cultural enthusiasts, high-class and those aspiring to be so. With convenient parking ranging from self-parking to valet, from $1 and up, you can simply walk around the outside mall, lay on the grass, listen to live jazz, watch the water show, enjoy fine dining outside, on the balcony, or inside the intimate, and warm vibe of the restaurants. Whether alone or with a group, you can always enjoy shopping, chilaxing in the Bookstore, or enjoying a movie at the theater. Great place to meet any mood, any need, and fulfill you by the time you leave. more

Shopping and dining amid a posh setting 6/4/2008

Angelenos and out-of-towners flock to this popular venue for entertainment, dining, shopping and of course people watching. I was mostly impressed by its stylish architecture and precious decor--it comes all in red, light brown and golden tones. Pleasant tunes create a background for extensive shopping and invite to luscious dining. A feast for the eyes is certainly for every female the topless male situated at the entrance of ""Abercrombie and Fitch"". I would highly recommend the Grove bookstore: ""Barnes & Noble"" . Summing up, to shop and dine at this venue is definitely not a bargain, but it convinces you with its fashionable style and trendy vibe. Pros: Ambience, service, diversified entertainment Cons: pricy, packed on weekends more

Perfect destination if looking to do dinner and a movie 6/1/2008

Movies are expensive everywhere these days. That said, I really like the movie theater at the Grove. There?s a good selection at the concession stand of candy, popcorn and other snacks. Inside the theaters themselves, the stadium seating is helpful for better viewing, the sound systems enhance the movie experience and the seats are so plush and comfy. Also, validation from the theater will pretty much cover parking unless your movie was super long. The main reason in my opinion though to pick the Grove theaters are the number of high-quality restaurants within walking distance. The theater helps the Grove become a great spot to do the ""dinner and a movie"" night out. Pros: audio system, stadium seating, comfy chairs, good selection of movies Cons: price more

WORST RUN THEATER EVER 11/24/2007

DONT GO HERE - WORST THEATER EXPERIENCE EVER !\r love the grove for shopping, but do not go to the movies there! \r \r they have rules that will make your head spin, staff is rude, this place is managed so poorly, for all the hudreds of people who go to see a movie they are all herded through 1 ticket collector (even on sat night) and you cant go in untill right before your film starts, not even to the bathroom, seriously the most poorly managed visitor experience of any public space that can ruin even the best of dates. \r \r o yeh and the movies cost more after 7pm , yet the service is still the same horrid experience! Cons: control freaks who dont care about the movie goer only about $$$$ more

Awesome concessions, nice screens 11/23/2007

The theatres at The Grove are probably the 2nd best in the Hollywood area. The seats are comfortable, the movie selection amazing, and the convenience of the self-help concessions crazy nice (why don't other theatres do this?). The lines can get long if you try to involve a human helper, so skip straight to the self-help ticket machines. Inside, the lobby is a high-ceiling'd beauty. The Grove location can lead to parking problems, so don't go in circles too long and just go straight for valet (hey, it's Hollywood). And afterwards, take some time to enjoy the outdoor mall too. A-OK in my book. Pros: Self-help concessions ordering Cons: Parking nightmare more

Great for people watching and for shopping 11/23/2007

The Grove (at the Farmer's Market) is probably my favorite mall in all of the Los Angeles area (keeping in mind that I'm a West Hollywood resident). An upscale feeling outdoor mall, this place rocks! It's got a huge movie theatre and all the stores you'd want. The parking can (and does) fill up, so arrive early or count on doing the parking deck dance for a while. Better yet, park at a meter in the neighboring streets if you plan to be in and out (not for the movie-goer). more

A Real Shopping Experience 9/13/2007

I'll be honest, I used to hate The Grove. It epitomized the worst of LA - exclusive, trendy, overpriced, fake, and a little ridiculous. However, somewhere along the way I believe I've been converted. When surveying LA shopping options, The Grove is a step above the standard blah mall. It has ambience with it's Bellagio-esque water fountain, tree-lined lit streets, and trolley. It has character in it's grand outdoor space with a quiet street tucked to the side. It's a nice place to take other people and a place that makes you feel good while you shop. It has a nice array of shops and restauarants, and the Farmer's Market keeps the place somewhat down to earth. But most important, it offers an experience while still offering affordable shopping. Pros: Ambience, Affordable, Shopping & Food Selection Cons: Pricey Theater, Can Be Crowded more

Love the Farmer's Market, Despise the Grove 12/21/2006

Once upon a time there was a quaint little market on the corner of Third and Fairfax Avenues, near the Museum row. It was a great place to get fresh produce, novelty gift items and an affordable lunch under $10. Then someone got the brilliant idea to replace a portion of the land next door into a monstrous shopping mall, with all the same stores you see in every other shopping mall in America. And things rarely go on sale at any of them. And parking is difficult - the digital parking space counter is supposed to be helpful, but when you see that there are 80 parking spaces on L2, they FORGET to mention that those spots are reserved for valet! Pros: Farmer's Market, theme park-like mall Cons: Overpriced retail shops more

If Disneyland were a mall 11/24/2006

You cannot get any more inauthentic than The Grove. It's made for Tourists and worse, Los Angeleno's have to suffer another faux reality and this time it's interfering with their shopping. If you want good shopping, check out The Beverly Center or Century City. If you want good food, click under restaurants after reading this review and find a place that isn't in an outdoor mall. The worst part of all of this is that once The Grove was erected, The Farmer's Market lost it's quaint, quiet charm, prices went up and those of us who cherished the nostolgia and precious nature of the market lost something special. It's simply not worth it. Pros: It's not going to physically hurt you Cons: Variety, inauthenticity, value more

Very nice outdoor mall 11/21/2006

I really like the Grove. With a huge parking lot with digital displays that show you how many parking spaces are left on each level, the movie theater which features limited-run independent films, and some very nice restaurants, not to mention the Farmer's Market, the Grove is a great destination. It gets very crowded on weekends and I generally stay away during the holiday shopping season. The restaurants are the real reason to come here, and the trolley is nifty as well. more

Farmer's Market Is an Essential LA Experience, Grove Is Not 11/21/2006

The Farmer's Market was a charming getaway in the middle of busy LA, surrounded by busy streets and the CBS Studios. Someone got the bright idea to append a shopping mall with chain stores to the adjacent lot, with mixed results. The shopping mall has the usual chain stores. It does have nice fountains, but it's nothing to write home about. The Farmer's Market itself hasn't changed much. It's a nice place to get something to eat, with lots of variety, and with nice areas to sit down. There is excellent produce available, along with other specialty foods. A very nice stop if you're in the area. Pros: Farmer's Market has good places to eat and buy food Cons: The Grove is nothing special more

PACKED-Get there early!!! 11/19/2006

It's super crowded on the wkends but I guess it's a nice theater. I mean what theater doesn't have seats, popcorn, people talking while the movie is playing? It is stadium seating but I'm not sure it's anything spiffy. more

Ultimate theater 10/30/2006

This is an amazing theater. Yeah, tickets are ridiculously expensive, but what's new. This is a great spot to bring guests visiting LA. Pros: Beautiful & in the Grove Cons: tix are $$ more

Old Hollywood style filled with ultra-hip urbanites 6/28/2006

The Grove is a decadent place to watch a film. Though initially it's easy to get discouraged by the ridiculous ticket prices, it's even easier to sink into the bucket-like seats and forget about any and all woes. The screens in the bigger theaters are like IMax's. Fork over more than a hour of minimum wage and get lost in the movies. Pros: Great seats, screen size Cons: High admission prices more

ORGAN GRINDER MONKEYS 1/27/2006

Although these theatres are fancy with plush seats they have made an embarressment of their employees. They force them to wear overdone costumes with hats that only an organ grinders monkey would wear. The tickets are over priced, barely affordable on the weekends. Yes they sell out ..BUT.. they are the ONLY theatre worth going to in that area. The parking is a royal pain and a MINIMUM of $2.00, often more. Traffic in and out is horrendous. TOURIST, TOURIST CAN YOU SAY TOURIST TRAP??? Really not worth the effort to go here. Pros: plush seating, stadium theatre Cons: pricing, access more

The Expensive Grove 12/2/2005

This is an outdoor mall connected to the Farmer's Market. There is a lot of stores and good restaurants, even a trolly to take you from the Grove to the Farmers Market and back for free. The mall is very nice looking and it is a big tourist attraction. Since people go to both the Grove & Farmers Market. There are plenty of touring buses that stop here. Overall, I found the Grove to be very crowded. The parking structure is a pain, you have to drive around in circles looking for parking. Many times having a long walk to an elevator or escalator. The mall is too expensive and crowded for me to shop there. Pros: Good stores, Good restaurants, Trolly Cons: Bad Parking, Mall Crowded more

Whats up with the thermostat???? 10/31/2005

The grove is unparallelled in the upscale look of the place inside and out of the individual theaters. It`s pricey, but many features make it worth the extra couple dollars. My only gripe, albeit a big one, about this place is it is FREEZING inside the theaters. 5 min after the movie commences, cold air is blown in your face thoughout the movie. Iv`e even complained during the movie and was told that other patrons had just complained and the ""problem"" would be fixed etc etc. It never gets ""fixed"". This has happened to me more than 5 times Matinees are just too cold to sit through. Can`t even imagine taking an elderly person or child into a theater this cold. Too bad they don`t listen to feedback about the temerature...because otherwise it would be a fantastic theater. Pros: roomy seats, clean Cons: cold, unresponsive staff more

Best of LA 3/7/2005

This is one of the nicest additions to LA in recent memory. When i moved here, i was pleasantly surprised to find this great place for shopping, movies, eating, and just strolling. They did a great job incorporating the old farmer's market into the shopping area. Not the greatest store selection - but the important ones are covered if you know what things you're looking for. Parking lot can be a mess to get out of on the weekends, but what else would you expect? This is LA after all. more
