WASTE OF TIME 6/10/2009

Been there twice. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. Don't go there!!! I'm not surprised by the bad reviews below. RUN far far away from this place. Rude and poorly managed. Plenty of other places to drink at. OVERALL A BAD EXPERIENCE! Pros: NONE Cons: EVERYTHING more

finally done! 3/19/2009

All I can hear is the sound that pacman makes after the ghosts consume him and the game ends! Much better places to have visited on 30th Ave. Enough said! Pros: backyard. Cons: everything else more

Bar 36 deserves to be out of business!!! 3/17/2009

When my fiancee and I went there 1st time, we loved it! Therefore, I decided to have my 30th birthday party there, because I wanted something special and memorable. Well, I got badly tricked by the manager who made me pay more than what I supposed to. First of all, we talked about the pricing which supposed to include the tax and gratuity already. My mistake was that I didn't get it in writing, I just trusted what the manager told me. When the total bill was presented, the pricing was the same but it didn't include the tax and gratuity. I basically had to pay more than what was agreed. MOREOVER, they charged me for 2 people that didn't show up! I tried to explain to the manager that they got really sick so that they had to go to the emergency room. But it didn't matter to him, he still charged me! Thank God, my friends had integrity and reimbursed me. But that whole situation left me with a really bad memory. That was the worst birthday of my life! If I ever see the face of that manager again, I'm going to run as far as possible from a restaurant where he is working! Pros: Good drinks and food at the beginning Cons: Bad management that tricks customers, very inconsistent! more

Great place for drinks 8/19/2008

I have been here several times for drinks and I must say that my friends and I really enjoy it. After reading the reviews of the place I am really surprised because I've always had positive experiences. Sure, the drinks are a bit pricey, but the place is very well designed and is nothing like any of the other places in Astoria! I was speaking to a friend of the owner last night who was working [and gave us very attentive, positive service] and he said that they have had problems with their liquor license being revoked and difficulties finding a quality wait staff and chef which may help to explain the negative comments on here. It seems to me like their heart is in the right place, and they're just working out some minor details now. I'd still much rather go here than the meat market next door where cheesy techno abounds! Pros: great decor, friendly staff Cons: a bit pricey more

THE TIMES ARE A CHANGIN 7/15/2008

Im a guy who has seen this place in the 6 months of growing pains in changes inconsistancys and what ever els has been done here. Im not your average unforgiving soul. I stay with what i feel has the greatest potential yes no out door seats in the front but I recently have herd through the noise that There is a definate line up and menui change headed up by Chef Vincent in a couple of weeks he will be displaying his new seasonal menus. Forgivness is an honerable gesture rewarded with beautiful karma so keep your eyes open for the begining of august to see the changes and the food quality soar to the skys. I also here that they are becoming vegetarian friendly for the new people moving into and welconed to this beautiful astoria location. more

really...don't bother 6/4/2008

ehhhh... better than many places on 30th Ave but still not great like a box of chocolates, you really never know what you are going to get have visited about 5 times in the past 6 months 2 out of five have been 'ok" went when they first opened- really yummy, from then on, down hill! They continuously cut back on quality of ingredients, food, and especially customer service don't bother...there are many other restaurants in Astoria that are good every time you visit! Pros: backyard is nice, cook astroturf on walls Cons: inconsistent more

bad service, waste of money 6/4/2008

We went here for brunch. Really bad. Waited forever for a waiter to take our order. Bad, bad bloody marys. The servers were dismissive. My mother was disrespected. She asked for no pepper in the food, there was pepper. We sent back food, still no good. She is elderly and needs respect. Saw waterbugs in bathroom and near kitchen. Pros: fun menu Cons: bad service and lack of caring for customers more

All i can drink? thank you very much!! Food was great and it was a chill spot. Def will return. Pros: food! booze! Cons: far from me more

Well It looks like Bar 36 is out of Business.. Thank heavens!! 5/27/2008

Went to Bar 36 on Sunday for brunch it was a total TOTAL DISASTER! Everyone working there seemed not to care about anything but talking on the phone and yelling at one another. This place USE to be so plesant, the food WAS so amazing. Was there several times over the winter had an amazing pork chop now gone! The menu now looks like some watered down version of the local competitions. Walked passed yesterday and today and found it all locked up not a single light on. Disorganization abound, rude owners, bad politics and unethical business practices is surly why this place is now CLOSED! Pros: Was good Cons: Now Closed more

Do not go here. Worst. Brunch. Ever. 5/24/2008

My husband and I were in the mood for something different for sunday brunch, and we tried it out since it looked like it had a nice garden in the back and a decent menu. Unfortunately, the only nice thing about this place is the garden. It was incredibly overpriced and understaffed, and though my waiter asked for my order twice (spinach, mushroom and CHEDDAR omelette) it came out with feta cheese and no mushrooms. Also, they ran out of hash browns...and I guess our waiter was sent out to the grocery store to get some because we never saw him again. We waited for a while to see if they would let us know what was going on but nothing happened until we asked for the check. Instead of giving us some credit on the check we had to pay full price. That means, for $16 a person at this restaurant you get two scrambled eggs (not three as they advertise), two slices of bacon, four slices of fruit, a biscuit and a muffin. Oh, and coffee is not included?it's $3 a cup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My husband and I will never be going here again, and will be telling our friends to avoid it. more

Horrible Service!! So Disorganized!! 5/10/2008

I went to this place for brunch twice. The first time was a bit of a wait to receive our menu's and the waiter forgot to serve us our coffee. We asked several times after our food was served for our coffee and salt. (FYI there is only ONE set of salt and pepper grinders in the entire restaurant whom which everyone has to share) The waiter was working by himself and for that reason we thought we'll give it another try and maybe we'll get better service. The second time it was two people working and we had a worse experience. When we got there, the only tables that were available still had left over dishes from the past guest. I noticed the waitress would pick up dishes from guests that were already seated instead of cleaning the dishes from available tables. After waiting for a table, waiting for our menus we finally got our order taken by the manager, when we received our food my order was wrong. He said he'll be back with the correct order but 15 minutes went by and nothing was corrected. On top of that we never received our coffees. I asked him for the check, and asked him to forget the coffee and the correct order because by this time we were done with our meal. What kind of a Manager sends his waitress to our table with the bill and tells her to apologize for his mistakes???? I should have known that it was going to be a bad experience when we sat down the people behind us returned their salad because it tasted like it had not been washed. I appreciate the whole unlimited mimosa deal, but honestly it taste like all orange juice and no champagne. There are so many restaurants in Astoria with better service that I would rather pay for my mimosas... I will never eat there again! more

a brunch of severe neglect 5/10/2008

Me and a group of my friends went here for Brunch. It took 45 minutes to get someone to take our order. Then when we received our order, several of the meals were missing important ingredients that were listed on the menu. By the time we got our food we were so hungry and irritated that we just ate it and didn't bother to say what was missing...we had already asked 3 times for water and still had not received that. Of course there was confusion with the charging of cards as well. They def seemed to be understaffed and unable to handle the work load. more

FINALLY!!!! ROMANTIC, SLEEK ENJOYABLE DINNING... 4/29/2008

IT WAS A FRIDAY NIGHTAND I DEBATED WITH FRIENDS WHEN THEY TOLD ME I HAD TO VISIT BAR 36 THEY SAID THAT I WOULD ENJOY WHAT IT HAS TO OFFER AND I MUST SAY I AGREE 100%. THE ARCHETECTURE OF THE RESTURANT WAS AMAZING VERY MODERN BUT NOT OVERBEARING.WE WERE GREETED AS SOON AS WE WALKED THROUGH THE DOORS AND WALKED TO OUR TABLE, WE SAT IN THE BACK OF THE RESTURANT AND LET ME TELL YOU THE DECOR WAS BEAUTIFUL.WHAT I LIKED MOST ABOUT THE DECOR WAS THAT IT APPEALED TO THE YOUNG AND OLDER GENERATION. AS SOON AS WE SAT DOWN I FELT RELAXED.. THEY HAD GREAT MUSIC PLAYING ,GREAT PLACE TO SOCIALIZE WITH FRIENDS OR HAVE A ROMANTIC DINNER WITH YOUR PARTNER.WE WERE GIVEN MENUS AND WE WENT STRAIGHT TO THE MARTINIS.. THEY HAD A GOOD SELECTION AND AT RESONABLE PRICES I ORDERD A EXPRESSO MARTINI IT WAS PERFECT COMPLIMENTS TO THE BARTENDER KELLY. OUR SERVER WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND MADE US ALL FEEL WELCOMED, THE OWNERS OF THE ESTABLISHMENT WERE VERY ATTENTIVE TO THE CUSTOMERS ASWELL.WE HAD DRINKS THE WHOLE NIGHT AND EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD A NICE SELECTION OF FOOD WE DECIDED TO HAVE DRINKS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE NIGHT. I WILL DEFINITELY COME AGAIN. Pros: reasonable prices Cons: bigger selection of music more

FANTASTIC 3/21/2008

I can't tell you enough how much my wife and I enjoyed this place. The decor is ultra modern and sleek. The drinks were great and moderately priced. The staff were also great and very attentive. Great place to socialize, will come again. Pros: try the mango cocktail Cons: none more

ABOUT TIME!!!! 1/16/2008

FINALLY SOMEONE GAVE 30th AVE WHAT IT NEEDS!!!!. Great place with beautiful decor. I have been there several times, NEVER had a bad experience. Good Service, the owners are the nicest guys possible. This is the first time ever walking into a place on 30th ave that I wasn't judged, eyed, or checked out by staff. I am a regular white male american, but oddly I felt uncomfortable on 30th avenue. This place really makes you feel welcome. Wonderful place for drinks, first dates, nightcaps, after work (Perfect), or just for the whole night. BTW I never had the food, when I do you can bet I will review it! Pros: wonderful feel to the place. more
