Awesome Omakase 6/5/2011

There's no crazy rolls on the menu. Just primo grade fresh sushi. Omakase at the sushi bar is the most amazing experience. The king salmon melted in my mouth. The herring roe exploded with flavor. Simply amazing. Just go try it for yourself. If you like real sushi this place is IT! more

Consistency and Longevity is King 3/10/2011

Yes, this is one of the more expensive sushi restaurants in Westchester, but it's also one of the best if not the best. It's simple and very traditional. There's none of that new-fusion stuff. But, if you prefer authentic sushi you would find in Japan, you'll be delighted. It is interesting to read some of the negative reviews here. They demonstrate a clear mis-understanding of what a ""traditional"" sushi restaurant entails. Those who know better will be pleased with Azuma Sushi. The flavors and portions are authentic. A traditional sushi restaurant doesn't try to fill you up on rice and doesn't mask the freshness of their fish under the guise of ""fusion"" sushi. You don't even need to use soy sauce to enjoy their sushi because it is so fresh and deftly prepared. In fact, they offer a variety of selections that are meant to be enjoyed without any soy sauce. Azuma and Nanase in White Plains have the highest quality chefs in Westchester. I think that is what separates them from the rest of the non-Manhattan places. Fresh ingredients can only get you so far. You need a fantastic chef also. It's probably also why they get compared to the high end places in the city. Azuma provides overall great value for the suburbs. The slight price difference from its neighbors buys you consistency, which is quite rare outside NYC. more

grandma's favorite 2/20/2011

i have been going back to azuma for years even after i moved into the city. the sushi is just as fresh as hatsuhana without the manhattan traffic. azuma's uni is wonderful. the taste is clean as it gets outside of eating it straight out of the shell. the squid is cut in such a way that makes it melts in your mouth instead of being chewy. the herring roe is heavenly. i need to find their recipe. everything is fresh and delicious. not just the obvious tuna, salmon, yellowtail, etc. and their handmade soy sauce makes everything even better. more

Decent sushi restaurant - not great. 7/29/2008

Azuma is located right next to the Hartsdale train station and the place is somewhat nondescript. There are shades in the windows which makes obscures and hides the insides of the restaurant. It can either be mysterious or uninviting. Pros: easy parking across street Cons: average food more
