Excellent food, service could be warmed up a bit. 10/9/2010

When I meet my Park Hill friends at an in between place we often go to Ave Grill. Meals are really heavy and that?s a good thing for most people. My favorite is the Caesar salad with salmon. Wine list is excellent, but on the high side. No apologies?.I?m thrifty. But when you dine out 4 nights a week, you tend to expect more. I love the ambiance. It?s swank and warm, but not Brown Palace swank. The Brown in on the stuffy side. Perfect for a date, business meeting or just for the hell of it. Great people watching place at lunch time or on a Friday. more

My Constant 5/4/2010

This has been my 'go to' place for years now! I'll go here for nice dinners, casual weekend lunches, or for a much needed happy hour! Their food is delicious and their martinis are making my mouth water just thinking about them. Friendly staff - from the Managers to the bussers, I've never had an issue with service. For those of you that think this place might be too expensive or too ""fancy"" - just try it out... think San Francisco Bistro, with a Denver attitude. Pros: lemon drop martinis, service, ambiance, HH, parking more

For a nice relaxed and sophisticated dining experience check out Ave. Grill 2/18/2009

The Avenue Grill in down town Denver is a sweet little get away. With it's low lights, quiet atmosphere and very helpful and polite staff it made for a remantic dinner. The menu is fairly limited, but the food is excellent. My steak was cooked perfectly, and my husband said the scallops were devine. Pros: Small dining area, not crowded Cons: limited parking more

Super dependable with many regulars. It's a good default when you want a cozy window view and glass of wine! 8/23/2008

I've been going for over ten years. Lunch or dinner. Both dependable. Only complaint is dishes can be over-sauced and too much butter, but just speak up they will accomodate. Great atmosphere. You can almost always get a window seat and if you're alone, it's even more recommended. Sometimes I feel a bit out of place dinning alone. But here it's very zen to sit with a glass of wine and read or people watch. Pros: Ambiance, nice place to site people watch. Great food, nice selection, no problem spliting plates. Cons: Wish they would offer more healthy lighter fare. But they will accomodate requests. more

Never lets us down 4/16/2007

I love Ave Grill. We celebrate every occassion we can there. We were there last week for a birthday and the service was wonderful. The entrees were all perfect. The pork chop is to die for and has not changed in the last few years that we have been going there. I will admit that the dessert menu needs to be more homemade and changed up. It is lacking. For instance the Key Lime is not worth the money. But the bread pudding is great as well as the frangelico tart. The wine list as well as the bartenders are great. I hope that Ave Grill never changes. They are perfect just the way they are. We go there at least once a week too! Pros: Parking Cons: Not a place for kids. Which actually is not a con for those that want to dine kid free. more

Poor service, lousy food and service 3/31/2007

Expensive, waited forever and way below average food. Service was even worse and overcharged for drinks...ice tea charges each time and no refills we were told. How expensive is it to refill an ice tea? Will not go back ...waste of time and money! VERY DISPLEASED Cons: everything from start to finish more

It only takes one bad experience.... 9/19/2006

What a disappointment! Weve had several nice dinners at the Avenue Grill, and considered it a reliable place for a good meal. Pros: good martinis, you can always get a table, good people watching Cons: fine dining prices for average cuisine, very loud more

Amazing dining experience. 8/6/2006

My wife and I were with a friend who always talks this place up. Well, one night we were at a nearby bar and he started talking about the Avenue Grill again. We caved in and decided that we would all go. I was in typical street-wear and I was a little reluctant to trying this place out. When I peered in the window I saw a very well dressed, well mannered wait-staff, nice romantic lighting, and lots of people dressed up. I thought I would get a lot of weird looks from the wait-staff when i walked in, but it didn't happen. They treated us just like everybody else. This may have been the best service I've ever had. Our server was extremely knowledgable. He knew about every item on the menu and gave us great recommendations. Very friendly and easy to talk to. Our glasses always had water and he knew exactly when to come check on us. Very very good service - i was very impressed. The food was very delicious as well. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of the soup dish I had (never heard of it, tried it on a whim) but it had mussels, shrimp and halibut in a tomato based soup with herbs and spices. It was nothing short of amazing. Everyone else loved their dinner as well. My wife had a chicken salad, which was really good. Our friend Jason had a spicy asian noodle dish, that was especially amazing. For an appetizer we had Rockefeller Oysters which were out of this world. This isn't a cheap place to eat, but all things considered it's a great value. Ah yeah, I have to mention one last thing... Our entrees came with a dinner salad. The Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing was the best Vinaigrette i've ever had! Unusually thick for a vinaigrette, but amazingly good. I highly recommend this place!!! Pros: Amazing food, amazing service. Cons: None. more

Avoid 8/2/2006

Usually AG is wonderful but we took friends from out of town for a late lunch. Over cooked, strange flavor on stake, OVERCHARGED for Ice Teas ""We charge for each class and NO free refill"" $8 for 4 glasses of ice tea for 2 people. Will NOT return EVER AGAIN...lousy service and attitude with staff !!! Dirty Glassware and water spilled on table and floor when served. A nightmare!!!! $100 wasted... more

Excellent 7/21/2006

Always great service and great food. I have had a number of things off the menu and my pick is the ahi with the ponzu buttter. Yummy!! more

Consistantly good, marvelously versatile. 10/18/2005

The restaurant for all reasons. Great for a romantic date, for celebrations, for out of town guests or for a casual pint at the bar. I have been a regular for over 7 years. I felt like a regular after the first visit. Always impeccable service. I have had one bad meal in 7 years, mostly my own fault as I was ordering off the menu. Can't recommend highly enough. When friends come to visit, they always ask, ""Can we go to The Ave while we're in town?"" Pros: FOOD, SERVICE, AMBIANCE more

Awesome Halibut 10/1/2005

I am from out of town and found the Avenue Grill for lunch. Stephen, although relatively new as a server at the restaurant, was terrific and offered wonderful advice. When I questioned him about one entree, he steered me towards another he thought was better. I have to say, the halibut was terrific, the presentation colorful and inviting. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this eatery to anyone. Oh, and ask for one of Stephen's tables when you get there! Pros: Food quality, Great service, Free parking Cons: Absolutely none more

great food and atmosphere 6/14/2005

Great food at resonable prices, can come in jeans or a suit and not feel out of place. a great cheese burger is always available, great for kids- order them a shirly temple in a martini shaker/glass Pros: moderate priced, reservations availabe, great wait staff more

Great neighboorhood place in Uptown 4/28/2005

Uptown is one of our Denver favorites, and the fact it's in our neighboorhood makes it even better. We've never had a bad meal there. The menu changes, but the great staples like the salmon BLT for lunch and the Asian noodles remain. A Californian-esque menu shows off lots of fresh plates. A great bar - and a great martini making behind it! Make a reservation and ask for a table on the windows - it makes for great people watching. Pros: great location, high quality, friendly service more

Its all about Bill 10/8/2003

I LOVE THE AVENUE GRILL. It is my favorite restaurant. I have never had a bad experience there, or anything even remotely close. Bill the waiter is the best waiter in the world. When he asks you how everything is, you never have food in your mouth. He fills up you glass with ridiculously perfect timing. He doesn't hover, or ask too many questions. Its amazing how a wait person like this can take your dining experience to a whole other level. Pros: Bill, food, atmosphere Cons: nothing, nothing, nothing more

Lunch(great) Dinner(ouch) 6/21/2003

We have eaten at the Avenue Grill twice in the past two weeks. The first time was for lunch, and our meal was excellent. The food was far better than we had hoped for, and the service was very attentive. Dinner was another story. Service was terrible -the entire staff was unattentive. We needed a knife that was sharp enough to cut our Ahi, but our waiter left the floor for over ten minutes, and no one else was ever came near enough to help. Our food was uncacceptable as well. The cioppino was very bland (tomato and old mussel flavor), the vegetables were cooked to death, and the plates needed a good towel around the edges. The food was overpriced. Not necessarily expensive, but worth far less than the $18.95 (Cioppino) and $19.95 (Ahi) that they charge. Pros: Great sandwiches, Good atmosphere Cons: Overpriced, Service more

Superb 11/27/2002

Wonderful food, great service, very unpretentious and great staff. My Mom and Dad went on my recommendation, split a dinner and the staff delightfully split their entree in the kitchen maintaining presentation for each!! Thanks Ave Grill! Pros: Great Menu, Unpretentious, Excellent service more

World Class Dining in a Great Neighborho 7/19/2002

World Class Dining in a Great Neighborhood Establishment is to be found at the Avenue Grill. The service is unpretentious - but well refined and friendly. The menu offers very well executed creative selections with options for more standard fare that is well prepared. The bar is gem to be savored - whether one of their signature martini's or your own special drink; you will be well accomodated. The scene is fun - equal comfort for those in coat and tie or shorts and a ball cap. Pros: Service, Food, Scene more

Best Martini in town 5/28/2002

Best Martini I've had in Denver. Courteous staff that remembers your drink of choice from last time you were in. Food good. They gave my wife a free glass of wine for having a dirty knife! Parking is easy and free - something you don't see often downtown or uptown. Ask for the bleu cheeze stuffed olives in your vodka martini! more
