Editorial review from Citysearch 5/31/2013

I do NOT recommend this place--the person there is very rude, surly and I just picked up my daughters boots to be cleaned and paid $32 and they still had clods of dirt on them. Some lame excuse about not having them long enough to clean right. Will NEVER go back to this place. more

This place will save your soles! Bring in your favorite worn out shoes and they will resole, polish and repair them to perfection. It's better than getting a new pair. more

Outstanding Shoe Repair 6/8/2011

After reading some of the negative reviews, I feel compelled to defend my favorite shoe repair store and cobbler. The shoe repair and service in this store is impeccable, and the gentleman who works here is extremely professional and kind. His work is beautiful and worth every penny to restore your favorite shoes. For those of you who previously insulted this business, please go elsewhere to get your cheap, poor quality service! more

Overall Great Expierence! 5/18/2011

I was reading some of the other comments and noticed people commented on the man working there. I have been many times to this specific location and the same man is always working! He is always very friendly to me! He takes his job seriously and he is good at what he does...people must take him the wrong way. more

Shoe repair 5/17/2011

Very knowledgable. Fair pricing. No strings attached. Will tell whether or not the shoes are worth fixing. Will definitely go back. more

Shoes were repaired very well 10/11/2010

I actually had a good experience with this particular Austin Shoe Hospital. The man in the store wasn't super friendly, but nice enough, and my shoes/boots were done fantastically. more

Don't go to this "hospital!" 5/28/2010

I decided to try this location because I go to Westlake a few times a week. I called ahead to see exactly where it was and was given directions. When I got to the shopping center I still had trouble finding the place, but that could have been my fault. When I walked into the store I jokingly told a man named James that I had trouble finding the place even with directions. He rather grouchily told me that he had given me correct directions. So we got started off "on the wrong foot," so to speak. I showed him the two things that I wanted repaired: one was a carry-on travel bag which needed about two inches of stitching on a seam. He said that it would cost $18.95. I told him that that was almost what I had paid for the bag at a discount store. He said something to the effect that I could just buy another one from a discount store and that it would probably rip too. So I decided not to have that repaired. I then showed him a pair of sandals which needed to be glued. The straps had gotten wet and the two layers of leather had pulled apart. To me it seemed to be a simple enough job. He said that it would cost $15.95 for the pair. I expressed surprise that it would cost this much and said I might be able to glue the straps myself. He said in a rather hostile way, "Well in that case I can sell you some glue so that you can do that." I told him that I might have the right kind of glue at home. He never told me to try the store again or wished me luck fixing my items. Another customer then came in so I don't think that he even said goodbye to me. I was really shocked at his rudeness more than at the high prices he quoted. I would just like to say to James: "This is Austin. People are nice and friendly here." Pros: Good location Cons: Bad customer service, inflated repair prices more

RUDE INCOMPETANT!! DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR SHOES 3/8/2010

This store lost my boots and made up a price which happen to be double the actual price so i paid $75 for two boots to be re-heeled instead (according to the owner $30 for BOTH) plus they lost one pair shrugged and said well they jsut arn't here ($350 pair of boots gone) he sad find the ticket and i had moved and lost the darn thing and was so scareed cos this guy did not care a jot and was so rude about it i was stressed he then found them days later nonchanletnly...i was not pleased when there was no apology and priced double then normal. Pros: HIKE THEIR PRICES AND RUDE ABOUT IT WHEN QUESTIONED Cons: VIOLENT WITH THIER CUSTOMERS AND YOUR SHOES more

Save your shoes! 11/6/2009

Go to Austin Shoe Hospital. ASH does an excellent job of repairing shoes that are in need of a little love and attention. I've been able to extend the life of several old favorites and saved myself a lot of time and money in the process from having to go out and buy a new pair. I've always received my shoes on time and they've done a great job of getting them like-new again. Thanks a bunch ASH, you've found a customer for life :) more

Excellent, prompt work 6/3/2009

I have been going to James and Austin Shoe Hospital on Bee Caves for about 10 years. The work is always excellent. My shoes come back looking brand new. He also reconditioned/dyed my Hobo purse. It looks great, and there is no more fading on the handle. He is also very prompt. He has even completed a job a day early for me, so that I could have the shoes before vacation. I would not take my shoes anywhere else. He is also very thorough in explaining the work and what to expect. Pros: Meticulous, prompt more

Damaged bag? Take it to James! 5/20/2009

My family gave me a Louis Vuitton computer bag for Mother's Day. My daughter's dog chewed a chunk our of the bottom right near the seam. I took it to James Hawkings at the Austin Shoe Hospital at 3300 Bee Caves Rd, and he patched the hole with the Louis Vuitton material (it's a mystery to me where he took it from), so that it looks like a small tab that serves some purpose. I would never know it had been damaged! I am so happy with his work - I'll always take damaged shoes or bags to James' shop before giving up on them!! Thank you, James. Pros: Creative & beautifully done repairs Cons: None more

Best shoe repair in Texas 5/7/2009

The work is meticulous and painstaking. When I showed the shoes to Stuart Weitzman store personnel they could not believe how perfect the repair was. I have now taken five pairs of shoes for refurbishing and each pair is better than new! Pros: Fabulous manager - James Hawkins Cons: None that I know of you more

Great cobbler/shoemaker/repair place 5/21/2008

I've always had great experiences going to this location of the austin shoe hospital. James is always there, polite, knowledgeable about the repair process and ready to make recommendations about what is needed to repair my item. In five years of frequenting this establishment, I've never had a bad experience and appreciate the timely manner in which my items are attended to. Often when I pick up my repair, it is difficult to find which area that was the repaired spot, since the workmanship quality is so good. Thanks, James!!!! You are appreciated, and I bring ALL my repairs to your store. Thanks for doing such quality work in such a reasonable time! Great location, great service. Pros: great quality service in a timely manner Cons: sometimes costs a little more but the quality of the repair is worth it to me more

Like Brand New! 3/5/2007

I just got back two pairs of shoes that I sent to Austin Shoe Hospital. They polished up the leather, added a new sole, and fixed the heels that had been worn down to nothing. My shoes look brand new!!!! I spent less than $50 and would have had to spend triple that for a new pair! The shoes were ready when they said they were and the staff was very helpful. I will definitely return!! more

Does not know the meaning of customer service 2/27/2007

Please note that I cannot speak for all locations; only the owner & the store on Bee Caves (manager James). The first time I took a pair of shoes here, James seemed a little irritated with me, but I decided to give it a second chance, as the work done (anti-slip soles added) was very nice. My second visit was for the same service, but on much more expensive shoes. They were promised on a Thursday & when I arrived to pick up my shoes they weren't there & James had no explanation. I waited until the following morning & called James back (he should have touched base w/me) & he still didn't know anything. I called another store & obtained the number of Carol (the owner) & he said he was not aware of the situation. I waited another day & called James back. He said he would not call me if he didn't have any info; ugh. They finally located my shoes later that day & apologized. However, when I showed up on the following Monday to pick up my shoes, I received no apology & was made to pay for th more

Need to work on their customer service 2/26/2007

My shoes were misplaced for 3 days after their scheduled pick-up time with no call or explanation. When I finally received a call, they said sorry & that my shoes were ready. When I arrived, I received no personal apology & still had to pay for the service done. I made it clear that my shoes were needed for a special occassion & they weren't ready in time (they had been delivered to store 13 instead of store 3). Too bad for me; I won't go back. Pros: Good quality workmanship Cons: Very bad customer service more

My Shoes are Like New! 5/25/2006

I beat up my favorite pair of heals just be everyday wear and a few too many late nights downtown. The heal had dwindled down and there wasn't much left to the sole. Austin Shoe Hospital did a great job, and my shoes look brand new! I couldn't be happier with the results! more

Shoe repair 3/25/2006

My favorite pair of leather boots needed a new zipper and needed new heels on them. I called around to compare prices and the shoe hospital offered what I needed done for a good price. I dropped my shoes off and in just a few days they called me to let me know that they were ready for pick up. I was pleased with the work they did, the price, and the time they were able to do it in. They saved my favorite boots!!! more

First Class Boot repair! 9/6/2005

I've been taking my shoes and boots to Austin Shoe Hospital for the past 10 years. They did an excellent job replacing the heels on my favorite boots and that was 8 years ago and they're still good! They can fix anything and they have such reasonable prices that it's cheaper to have them fixed than buy new (don't take a cheap pair of shoes). Leather sandals, they can do it all. They never disappoint me! more
