Only Place for Sushi 12/25/2009

We have tried and tried Sushi around town and Asuka is the only place to get awesome sushi. Dont bother with the other places, no one can beat the quality, price ,or size of the rolls. Especially good on busy nights. Pros: Great Sushi more

Asuka's is good 8/4/2009

never seen someone who can't spell write a good review about anything LOL! Pros: gave me a few free for tipping the sushi cook more

not that good, not that bad 5/15/2009

When I entered the restaurant, the Sushi Chef was sitting right by the front door-the public main entrance-smoking cigarettes. Cons: very limited selections more

Save Your Money! 10/8/2008

A big group of us used to go here because our little minds didn't know that there were OTHER sushi joints in happy valley. Now when I say big, I mean at least 6 people ordering the all-you-can eat buffet once a week. So we were ""regulars"". Everytime we went we were mildly satisfied, particularly because everytime we went our waitress would only smile and not really listen to our requests. So the specific event that made it so that we never went back wasn't that big of a deal, it was how they handled it. Pros: ...the fish tank Cons: SLOW service, inadequate staff, mediocre sushi, bad parking on weekends more

Terrible at everything 4/21/2008

This place sucked major dong, i will never go here again in my life. I would rather go off to the side of the road, find some dead animal and eat it, thats basically what there sushi is anyway. I dont understand how anyone can honestly say they like this place. Ok so its kinda cool to watch them cook, but they arnt even all that good at what they do. Im not saying i could do it, but i wasnt that impressed. I strongly recommend not going here, just head over to olive garden across the street, it has edible food. Cons: Everything more

Excellent place to have a great time 2/14/2008

I wouldn't call my self a sushi expert, but i do think i am an expert on what tastes good. I love this place, and going is always a big event for me. I think the food tastes great, and weather it is the freshest or not i couldn't say, but it IS fresh and delicious. This place is located in Utah so you cant expect the fish to be right out of the water fresh, but it is the freshest i have found here. Concerning the customer service, i have gone when service has been lightning fast and I've gone when it has taken a while to get my food, but every time they have been friendly and courtious. I think that this place is great for large groups or couples, and if everyone orders the unlimited sushi things get served family style which is really fun. I would suggest going to this place as an activity itself or as the end to an activity because you don't want to feel rushed. The atmosphere is best for those who want to kick back and have a good time eating and talking with freinds. Pros: Great tasting food, good atmosphere, great price Cons: Unpredictible dinning time more

Awful management and fish not fresh. 2/10/2008

I tried to get them to fix an error on my well over $40 check in the amount of $4 and they refused. I ordered a side order as well as my meal and I received my side order but was not given all of my meal(I should note that this happened to EVERYONE at my table). When I received my check I pointed that out to our waitress and she said she was sorry and that she would have the side order(which was $2) removed to even it out then she came back and said that the manager would not let her do this. We then talked with another waiter who also said there was nothing he could do. I said you would think that the customers happiness would mean something and he said that there is new management and that he has had quit a few complaints since. Also, my friend ordered the salmon(she order's it everywhere) and said that it was very fishy tasting and she thinks it was not fresh. more

WORST SUSHI EVER! 10/11/2007

My wife and I ordered 6 rolls and some tuna and yellowtail sashimi to celebrate a special occassion. This was, without exception, the worst sushi I have ever had. First, the ""spicy tuna roll"" had bits fo fresh tuna that had been chopped into tiny pieces in a blender, mixed with a heavy portion of mayo and CANNED TUNA! I kid you not - there was canned tuna and mayo in the sushi roll. Second, the yellowtail rolls were very ""fishy,"" which means the fish was not fresh. The odor and foul taste was so strong we couldn't really appreciate the flavor of the sushi. The sashimi was acceptable. It was plated nicely and was surprisingly fresh. Pros: Nice presentation of food Cons: Fish is not fresh, add mayo and canned fish to sushi rolls, slow service more

From a Japanese food lover, the perfect balance of high value and high quality. 2/14/2007

Asuka is currently my favorite Japanese restaurant in Provo. It is very high quality but the prices are less than Happy Sumo, a top-notch trendy sushi bar nearby. Cool. I was very impressed with the large sushi portions and the many options. The menu was slightly confusing, though, but mostly because there were so many different options. We had a california roll, and one of their specialty rolls. The rolls were significantly bigger than I'm used to and looked and tasted very fresh! The terayaki beef we had to complement our sushi was a tender juicy steak, cooked to perfection, and a nice size. The prices were great too, at 5 bucks for a basic roll and 12 for the fancy specialty roll. I couldn't complain, and the steak was 11 dollars; good deal. The service wasn't noticably bad or good. It did seem a little lax, but adequate. I sometimes eat at the two little Japanese restaurants on center street: Demae and Osaka, and while I enjoy these places (especially their prices, and the ambience at Osaka), when I want to step it up a little without breaking the bank I'll head to Asuka. Pros: fresh, delicous sushi, good value, good steak, good hibachi more

Slow, Poor Customer Service 6/2/2006

My Boyfriend and I went into Asuka for the second time last week and were so disapointed. The first time we went we has the Tepanyaki and it was wonderful! Then we went for the 12.95 all you can eat sushi. We ordered and sat for 45 minutes before the server came and told us that she lost our order. She took it and we waited at least another 1/2 hour! There where 4 other tables. We where not compensated for the inconvenience at all. Not even a free soda. Had I left happy I might have been convinced to come back and give them another chance, but they made no effort to do so and they have lost me as a customer. They didnt offer to even fill our sodas. While we where waiting we where ignored. The sushi was alright. Not worth the hour and a half wait. Pros: Good Tepanyaki, Good Price Cons: Slow, Poor Customer Service, Sushi Average more

disapointed 5/23/2006

I was sad that I didn't like this place. I went in with a positive attitude based off the other reviews i read. Sadly, the service was slow, it took almost 40 minutes to get out our food and there was maybe 3 other table in the restaurant! In back it smelt like cigarette smoke, and the sushi came out greasy. The one thing I asked my server for, more ginger, never came to my table...it was disapointing. more

absolutely fantastic! 4/28/2006

i have gone to this place atleast 15 times in the past year and the sushi is absolutely fantastic. pay no mind to the negative review.. their sushi rice is just fine. and not only that, but the fish is the most important part of sushi.. and both their rice and fish are fantastic. one of my favorite places to go in provo and the value is unbelievable. the nicest sushi chefs, unbelievable value, great great food. i highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of sushi.. absolutely fantastic place. more

Good Deal 4/14/2006

This place was great. Our waiter was very attentive and served us promptly. The sushi was really good and was actually a better deal than other sushi restaurants I've been to. I'm definately going back. more

User review by wjepson 1/15/2006

I completely disagree with the other reviewer of this restaurant. It was GREAT! Our waitress was super sweet, kept the refills coming, and had a great attitude. And our Hibachi chef was unbelievable. He had an awesome routine. Never a dull moment. And the food was seriously good. We plan to go back in a week with our kids and more family! more

Horrible Service and Lousy Food 10/28/2005

Took my wife to this restaurant and had the worst waitress. She acted as if we were imposing on her time. Good rice is the key to good sushi and this place did not have good rice. Between the lousy service and lousy food, I left without leaving the waitress a tip...something I haven't done in a long time. more
