The Aspen on Hall is Terrible!!!!! 9/1/2009

I'm was completely disgusted by the staff. First of all a hostess never greeted or sat us and there was no excuse considering the place was empty. The waitresses in the bar area were so floozy I had to move my family to the dinning area. If I wanted to see that much cleavage I would have gone somewhere else! Our waiter was fine it was a little annoying the way he kept trying to sell me more than I wanted. The most annoying part of the entire evening however, was the manager Donna!!! We barely had a chance to eat our food because she kept talking to us! Her comments were vulgar and rude it was completely trashy. This is a restaurant, all I want to do is sit down and eat a nice meal. The staff is there to seat, serve, and answer questions and THAT SHOULD BE ALL! There is nothing wrong with a simple friendly staff but this was pushing it. When we left I told the hostess working (Sophia or Stephania? ) ""Thank you for not seating us..."" and she simply stood there. I will NEVER be eating here again and I have mentioned my poor experience with a few of my friends as well. Cons: everything more

Best Wings and Beer 7/5/2008

Ok, the secret to the Aspen is to go on a night when there is a detroit sporting event. $3 pitchers and 25 cent wings! Amazing!!!! Pros: Wings and $3 pitchers Cons: location more

Amazing food, and even better service... I have a new favorite restaurant 3/8/2008

When I took my family to the Aspen, I honestly didn't think there would be anything different between them and other restaurants in the area, with their get in and get out attitudes. But The Aspen was truly different. My server Brandi went above and beyond what I would ever expect a server to do. She was GREAT with my children, which meant a lot to me! I will defiantly request her again. From the numerous times that I have been there now over the past few months, I can honestly not find something that I haven't liked. Whether it's an amazing grilled burger, or the prime dip, or the Giant salads, the lunch menu will never let you down. Then there are the dinner entrees; I have had the lamb (I?m Greek and know good lamb) and the prime rib to name my personal favorites. I would strongly recommend this establishment to anyone who is sick of being treated like your just another dollar sign walking through the door, and want personal, down to earth staff and atmosphere. Thank you Aspen for making my dinning experiences great! Pros: Excellent service, Great food more

Overcrowded - TERRIBLE FOOD - Prices are out of line for the quality 11/19/2007

We will NEVER return. Our visit came on our 14th Anniversary. We wanted to try the Aspen as we had heard someone mention it and had seen it from the road before. Also, we had an Entertainment coupon, so we figured it would be a good deal. Boy - were we wrong. We arrived - only to find out that there was a Wine Tasting event going on - and it was COMPLETELY overbooked. A manager mentioned they were expecting 120 people and had over 200. Weren't they working with the charity on this? Anyway, we were seated right by the entrance to the wine event. People were streaming out into the dining area. I was bumped at least 7 times and finally demanded we be moved. We ordered an appetizer. The spinach dip had an actual WHOLE CLOVE OF GARLIC IN IT. It was under the surface of the dip. The dip was V0MIT inducing. I ordered the lamb, my wife wanted the prime rib. Of course, they were out. So she ordered the grilled tilapia. I ordered the lamb medium well. It was RAW. Rare doesn't come close to describing it. The tilapia was rubbery, and was obviously not grilled. Nothing had any seasoning. The redskin potatoes seemed to have just been boiled. That's it. I could cook better at my home. Now they were doing a raffle a the wine tasting. Someone kept coming over to our table and SCREAMING numbers to others in the dining room. Who is running this place??? A complete MESS. We complained - the manager looked at the tilapia when we said it wasn't grilled and said ""Have you ever EATEN tilapia before?"" Gee - only about 140 times! It NEVER looked like this. It was bland, rubbery and disgusting. I asked - if it's grilled - show me a grill mark! Of course she changed her tune, gave us $10 off the bill, which still was over $60 and that was after having it be buy one get one entree free!!! I brought the lamb home, minus one disgusting bite, and had to cook it for 35 minutes in order to get it done medium well. That should tell you all you need to know Pros: The waitress had empathy - understood the place was a disaster that night Cons: Food was just plain bad. Absurdly priced for the value. Left FURIOUS. more

Excellent Cedar Plank Salmon with Pumpkin Seed 8/27/2007

Very good service experience. The Salmon on the Cedar Plank stays warm and moist. Hot tasty bread comes with your meal. If you get the salad be sure to try the raspberry balsamic vinegar dressing, it's made fresh. We ordered 4 containers of the dressing to take home. It's really delicious. Pros: Beautiful restaurant more

Avoid if you want to Breath fresh air 3/9/2007

Aspen on Hall serves up very taste food, and generous portions to boot. The service was fantastic, with the waitress coming around quite a few times to check on us. Also, there was another employeee going around checking how things were going also. BUT... One BIG Problem..... as soon as my friend and I got into the restaurant, I noticed the foul smell of cigarette smoke. We asked to be seated in the non smoking area, but the offensive and nauseating smell seemed to get a lot worse during the 2+ hours we were there. And about an hour before we left, my friend ordered a carry out order for her daughter, along with a piece of cake for dessert. We sat there at the table with the carry out bag for a good 45 minutes, and then I just had to say, are you ready to get out of this ""smoke house"". Anyway, I talked with my friend after she got home, and she told me that the plastic bag with the two carry out food containers were leaking white stuff all over. She found out it was from an ice cream dessert that she never even ordered. OH, and both Styrofoam containers were placed in the carry out bag upside down, causing a real mess when opened up! So Aspen on Hall has great food and service, but it is the worst restaurant to enjoy eating your food in a smoke free environment Pros: Great Food Cons: Very Smokey throughout restaurant. Very noisy more

Schuss on down to Aspen for great eats/good times! 7/31/2006

Visiting back home from California & 'jones-ing' for some fresh perch when an old high school chum suggested 'Aspen'. What a find! Not only was the perch sumptuous but the shrimp and calamari appetizers were divine! We chose to dine in the 'lounge' where they're ready for the World Series on their big screen (heads up, sports lovers) but I noticed the intimate rustic 'ski-lodge' like main Dining Room reminded me of Lake Tahoe in the winter...coool! Saw an advertisement touting future 'winetasting' a la Napa Valley....tres bien! Our waitress was extremely attentive as I was with my demanding family....a good time was had by all! - Jimmie Pros: Bottom line great food, great drinks, great service Cons: NOT A ONE more

Wanted to like this restaurant 8/11/2005

I really wanted to like this restaurant, however one who is ""somewhat"" into nutrition found nothing on the menu. I love fish and ordered pickeral and it was thickly coated .......believe me I not overly fussy however my neighbor totally agreed with me about the food. In regards to the service I had my salad and entree served at the same time. Needless to say, I usually give restaurants two tries before I eliminate it. For this restaurant to succeed it needs a far better menu. more
