Horrible Etiquette and Overpriced for Skill Level! 11/11/2009

I made an appointment online to have a single process, highlights, haircut and to have my hair dried. About thirty minutes prior to my appointment the receptionist called to tell me the stylist would be fifteen minutes late (I was on my way to the salon at that time). When I arrived I was told it would be an additional twenty minutes. Once this time had elapsed, they then told me she wouldn't be in for about another hour--are they kidding?! They should have simply called me that morning and cancelled the appointment. They had another colorist available who I decided to meet with. About that time the stylist (owner) arrived. It was now over an hour late for my appointment. She then proceeded to do my color, which came out completely wrong. She then gave me a five minute haircut (literally), whereupon she wasn't even listening to what I said I wanted, just began cutting away. To top it all off, the salon then charged me $150.00 for the single process and $75.00 for the cut--are they kidding?! Wrong color, five minute cut--it was ridiculous. I highly recommend against anyone use this salon. There are simply too many wonderful salons who value their customers and want them to continue coming back to utilize such an unprofessional facility. I plan on telling everyone I know how poorly I was treated. Pros: Carry Limited Aveda Products Cons: Unprofessional, overpriced, limited skills more

Always Happy 10/9/2009

I have always used Aria for my ""serious"" haircuts. But recently, in July, i didn't and was very disappointed. I went the place on Kappock st.... Needless to say i returned to Aria to have my hair fixed. I look good again and promise never to go astray!...... they do great makeup as well. the kind that last all through the day and night, always looking fresh... For a great cut,or new look...go to Aria! Pros: Best in Area Cons: Pricey more

Beautiful Hair Every Time! 8/25/2009

I've been getting my hair done by Kristina at Aria for years now. She came highly recommended from a friend, and I've been a loyal client ever since.. My color always looks beautiful and natural. Kristina is always super sweet and professional and I will continue to be a client as long as she's working there! Pros: Color, Cuts more

turned my blonde hair ORANGE!!!!! 7/6/2009

I had my hair cut and highlighted at Aria twice by Kristina and thought the results were decent, although not worth the price. On the third time, she used the wrong toner when touching up my highlights and turned my blonde hair completely ORANGE. Not kidding. Instead of apologizing, she tried to cover up her mistake by saying her intention was to give my hair a more golden color (complete BS). She clearly made a mistake and would not fess up to it. She then proceeded to try and wash the color out with chemical treatments that made my hair feel like it was going to fall out. She was also coloring my hair in between taking bites of her lunch. For a salon OWNER and head stylist, you’d think she would know what she’s doing. AND she still made me pay for the haircut. Her 3 minutes haircuts cost $60. They’re trying too hard to be like Manhattan salons when they DO NOT have the experience to back up city prices. I would NEVER go here again. I wish I had read the previous reviews of this place where people described their horrific experiences here. The business’ response to the “coloring while intoxicated” post is laughable. If this salon has been here for 16 years, it clearly was not run by the current management. AWWFULLL!! Cons: Horrific service more

Good place to get your hair done 3/31/2009

Above AVERAGE!!!!!! 11/19/2008

This summer I went in and asked if they could place some high lights underneath my long curly hair and just to make it look a little funky. I loved it and every one of my friends went crazy on how different it was. I was so happy with Kristina. Last week I decided I needed a change, I've had long hair since 8th grade so I made an appt with Maria and again I walked out of Aria with the most amazing look. Not the average cut. It looked so updated. I just love Aria and it's staff. Pros: Friendly, up to date styling more

Great Results, Great Service, Great Professionalism---Every Time 11/12/2008

My daughter and I first started going to Aria for hair and beauty needs in 2000. The exceptionally warm, capable staff, has kept us coming back, even though we now live in the city. There is no place that will take more time making you look your best, and no group of people more genuinely concerned about their clientele. \r \r I love Aria, and I could go anywhere. I go there because they have a passion for being the best, and it shows. more

Loyal Saturday Customer 10/22/2008

I am shocked at the last 2 comments about the Aria's staff. I have been going to Aria every Saturday for the last 5 years. I have only had positive experiences every time I walk in. The receptionist always has a smile for me and always takes the time to talk to me and truly enjoys an old ladies stories. I have never seen anything but a friendly enviorment and very accomodiating to my needs. Please take some advise from an older woman that has seen much in my life. If your not happy with something say it before you leave maybe they can fix the problem. Why come on a public forum and say things that are not nice and try to bring people down. Didn't your mother ever tell you if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all? Take a look around and see all the problems we are having in the world, they are major issues that are alittle more important then your hair. Your hair is something that can be fixed but the hatred and the negativity these 2 people have make me sad and I will pray for them. Aria keep doing what your doing because I'm a loyal customer and these reviews are from people who have nothing better to do then try to make others miserble. See you Saturday. Pros: The staff, from front desk to the girls that wash my hair. more

overpriced for bad service 10/22/2008

I moved to Riverdale from the city and was looking for a salon in the neighborhood. I came across Aria which looked like a beautiful upscale salon and the prices were the same as what I payed in Manhatten so I figured I would give it a try. When I went in for a color and cut I had to wait for the receptionist to get off her cell phone to check me in and she had the nerve to look annoyed!\r I specifically asked the hairdresser if she could use Aveda color because I have been using it for years and it doesn't irritate my scalp the way other colors have. She said no problem but she must have used something elsd because my scalp starting burning right away. She insisted it was Aveda like I wouldn't know the difference. My roots were darker than my ends, I was really upset and they told me the roots would lighten up after a few washings. They charged me more than the price on the menu because they said it was a new color. I didn't want a ""new"" color! I wanted the same color. I was so angry I left without getting my haircut.\r \r I would not recommend Aria to anyone! Pros: beautiful neighborhood, nice appearance, served me wine Cons: didn't listen to what I wanted and didn't try and fix the my bad color more

Coloring while intoxicated 10/16/2008

I went to Aria not once but twice.both times i had a bad experience first i had a horrific dye job from a lady named Kristina. After she made my hair look like a clown she proceeded to call over her other co-worker Maria who did nothing to fix bad hair job.they both reeked of alcohol to me .At first i thought i was hallucinating but both times i went there they both smelled like whinos.I guess that's why my hair was a disaster.I will never recomnend Aria to anyone. These girls were trying to color and style while intoxicated. more

Nice 9/27/2008

A great hair summer courtesy of Marija! 9/23/2008

Okay so I don't make a habit of writing reviews or gushing over services but I have been stopped by so many strangers complimenting me on my highlights but what they don't know if my secret weapon...it's Marija (the owner of Aria) and this crazy, incredible treatment she did to my hair back in May called something like Keratin treatment. My hair reminds me now of a Barbie Dolls, it's straight and shiny EVERY DAY and it was actually good for my hair. The only downside is the three days you have to keep the stuff on your hair when you first get it done but I tell you it was a blip on the radar compared to a summer full of great hair days. We're talking even when I was Orlando or San Francisco, my hair was predictably fabulous AND it's lasted longer than they said it would. I'm digging it and so will you. Best, Laura M. more

Brazilian Relaxer 8/30/2008

I have been a client of Aria for the last 10 years, I went in a few months ago for a hair cut and was informed about the brazilian relaxer. How it's great for frizzy and hard to deal with hair (which I have). Kristine showed me her hair and ask the receptionist to come over and look at her hair as well. Well let me tell you there hair was silky, straight and no frizz. They both explained to me that there hair is curly, frizz and takes likes 45 mins to style and now it's more like 5 mins and there out the door. As there sign states: wash and go hair. So I decided that I was going to do this process. I must have to say that I wasn't disappointed. I haven't stopped talking about this process. What once was a pain in the moring to style my hair, now I really wash and go these days. Thank you Kristine and Aria............... Pros: Informative, skilled, friendly staff more

Barbara is a saint 8/20/2008

I have been going to Aria for many years for both waxing and hair service and have yet to be disappointed. The atmosphere has always been friendly and relaxed. Specifically, Barbara has been cutting and styling my hair for longer than i can remember- literally, my mother started having her hair done by Barbara when i was 3 years old. She has always been more than accommodating. She styled my mothers wigs when she was diagnosed with cancer, styled her hair when it began growing back in and even made house calls to trim my mother, sister's and my hair when she was too tired to bring us out. Many women understand the need to feel feminine and beautiful especially when going through a sickness like cancer. Barbara managed to make my mother feel like a beautiful woman at the most difficult times.\r Today, my sister and I will follow Barbara anywhere, we are just thrilled that it happens to be within the comfort of Aria's salon. Never have I had a bad cut or color, no matter how many times I have changed my image through my teens and into my mid twenties (she saved my hair after an interesting ""blue"" period). I now live in Manhattan and would rather make my way to Riverdale for any salon needs. I would suggest to any and all within traveling distance to experience what both Aria and Barbara have to offer. Pros: All of it- the service, the environment etc. Cons: ? more

Kiwee for highlights 8/20/2008

Attempting to lighten dark, dark hair a few shades is terrifying-- you put your hair into a stylists hands with full faith here. The staff at Aria are confident in a humble, unpretentious way. I knew exactly what I wanted , and Kiwee made it happen. The color was spot on with what I asked for. \r \r Awesome atmosphere, self-assured staff, relaxed and great highlights. more

Hair, Color, Kertin Relaxer 6/30/2008

The girls at Aria are just fabulous. The atmosphere and quality of services can't be beat. Although they all are really good at what they do, Marija Shkreli is just a complete pro. She's been doing my hair cut and color for over 10 years and it always looks great. Just recently she gave me a keratin relaxer service that is just incredible. more

Affordale Quality Service 6/4/2008

I just moved to Riverdale from Manhattan and needed to start getting services done in the area, and coming from the city I was alittle picky about where to go and what to expect. So Conveniently located I stopped in at aria before heading to starbucks and picked up a salon menu. loved the front of the store that is desinged to look like a mini sephora with great aveda and davines hair products which I noticed were both natural and organic. So I picked up a great hair brush, a love shampoo that smells like pink grapefruits, and archipelago candle hmmm what else.. Oh and a hot pair of sunglasses.. I know sounds insane and I hadn't even been behind the curtain yet! So I pretended like I was too cool to get my hair done because I was from the city, so I just paid for my stuff left, grabbed a menu looked through it, got my vanilla latte ran back in and asked if I can get my hair done. I didn""t want to leave. I wanted to hang out there it was so pretty and casual. I asked if a stylist was available I had a consultation was informed that the color they use was plant derived and one was milk hydrolyzed. The colorist went to mix and I was put in a massage chair ahhhh scalp neck and back massage, nice little surpirse. I got a GREAT HAIRCUT AND COLOR! a makeup application and a nice cold glass of wine. I LOOK FABULOUS AND FEEL AMAZING. WHAT A NICE AFTERNOON IN MY NEW NEIGHBORHOOD. THANK U ARIA FOR PUTTING ME AT EASE \r \r Pros: extra perks Cons: tree blocks the awning more

Annie is great and I recommend her to everyone 4/7/2008

I just want to throw in my two cents after reading the previous post. Sorry the person who wrote it had a bad experience, but I think Annie at Aria is awesome. I've been a client for three years now and I will be one for many more. She is kind, courteous, professional and always does a great job. Yes, everyone has a reason not to be satisfied, but what good does it do to whine online about it? If you're not happy, definitely ask for your money back. But don't go on line and slam someone's professional reputation over your hair! It's hair! It grows back! Most grown-ups know that!\r \r Anyway, Annie is great. I recommend her to everyone, men and women. And Aria, the place she works, is very cool too. more

Worst Haircut Ever! 4/7/2008

The stylist, Annie, was terrible! When I walked in she asked what I wanted to do, so I showed her a picture of the Katie Holmes shaggy bob asking if she thought this would look good on me. She replied, ""yes you have a beautiful face,"" unsmiling as if to say, ""lets get on with it."" She was done with my hair cut in about 3 minutes flat and once it was blown out, I looked ridiculous. Annie had cut blunt, chunky bangs that went halfway around my head. The haircut didn't look anything like the picture I showed her; I looked much closer to Florence Henderson of the Brady Bunch. When I came back a few hours to try and get a refund, Maria, the owner, agreed that it did not look like what I'd requested and tried to fix it. I must admit, it did look better, but everything was still much shorter than I had wanted. Because cuts go for about $70 a pop, I would definitely NOT recommend this place to anyone. You can find much better service/quality for a better value. Pros: It is a beautiful space Cons: Low quality service, rude staff (except for the owner) more

Aria Beauty and Hair Salon Scissor Wild and Rude 3/23/2008

I arrived at the salon to schedule an appointment, and thankfully (or maybe not so thankfully) they were able to take me in right away. The woman at the front desk was extremely rude giving me not so much as a nod even though there were no other customers ahead of me so this gave me the solid impression that they don't value their customers the least bit. Finally, I was taken in and when the woman had asked me what i would like done to my hair, I specifically said that I would like a trim, and to take AS LITTLE OFF as possible because I am ""growing out my hair."" \r To my surprise, when I got home and took a shower, being that my hair is curly, my hair was cut so short that it was just above my chin! Mind that before that my hair was about an inch under my shoulders. I am very upset and disappointed. Pros: Beautiful place Cons: Rude, Scissorwild more
