Worst

We chose to leave our dog at Apolda for a week based on the strong reviews we read. After our experience I question the authenticity of many of the positive reviews on this kennel...

I have been using Apolda Kennel in Aurora when a foster home is not available for our rescue dogs for over a year now. It is a great ""no frills"" kennel. Yes, they have concrete floors but the place is clean, warm in the winter and cool in the summer. \r Our dogs have always left looking pretty happy and healthy. more

Pets Store 3/25/2013

They have really nice adoption service for cats and dogs. First off it’s mostly boutique pet store. If you want sometime unique or fun and of high quality. It’s a great place. The staff was very nice and extremely knowledgeable about animals and how to keep them healthy. more

Did a great job at a great price 10/24/2011

We're pleased 8/12/2011

Apolda provides a personal, backyard experience for my dogs. I like that it is literally in a guy's backyard, and Ken (the owner) is really nice. When we moved to the area, I was worried about finding another kennel that had what I wanted (indoor/outdoor runs, AC) and that I could trust. I've had previous bad experience with kennels where my dogs have come back acting weird/drugged. This has never happened at Apolda and my dogs actually like going there. In response to "Jennifer", no, it's not a pampered palace, but fancy promises are not always better. One time I boarded my dog at a place where a "dog limo" came and picked them up. When they brought them back, my lab was so wacked out he tried to jump on the hood of the car (he is arthritic and has to be helped into my own car!) It was completely out of character. Also, many places do not have an outdoor space and dogs are left at the mercy of whoever to let them out for bathroom breaks. As a high school teacher, I also lear more

Great Kennel 7/31/2011

We have boarded our twelve year old beagle, Cloe, at Apolda since she was four, and the service and attention has been first-class at every visit. In fact, there have been times, such as last month, when she came out of the kennel looking better and acting younger than when we dropped her off! Highly recommended. more

I have taken my doggies for grooming for years, and have boarded my dog here also. I always price shop, and want great sevice. I ALWAYS support the "small" business owners as well! I always recommend Apolda to my friends. more

Great place to board your pets with peace of mind 5/19/2011

Prior to this year I had neer boarded my dogs anywhere. I always had a relative watch them.With no one avaialble to help out with a last minute business trip, I picked Apolda from the yellow pages. This is a really great find. I have used Apoloda Kennels twice in this calendar year, and have to give my compliments to their stellar serivce. I have two very finicky dogs, each with special dietary needs, and the folks at Apolda addressed their needs with great care. In fact, the dogs were so relaxed and at ease when I picked them up that they seemed content to stay longer! Their facility is clean, inviting for customers as well as dogs, and the owner, John, is one of the most pleasent people I have dealt weith in a long time. If you live in either Kane or Dupage counties, and need a place to board your pet for a short long vacation/business trip, look no further. more

I have two very finicky dogs, each with special dietary needs, and the folks at Apolda addressed their needs with great care. In fact, the dogs were so relaxed and at ease when I picked them up that they seemed content to stay longer! Their facility is clean, inviting for customers as well as dogs, and the owner, John, is one of the most pleasent people I have dealt weith in a long time. If you live in either Kane or Dupage counties, and need a place to board your pet for a short long vacation/business trip, look no further. more

Dog Owners Beware 5/16/2011

We chose to leave our dog at Apolda for a week based on the strong reviews we read. After our experience I question the authenticity of many of the positive reviews on this kennel. Before you leave your dog at this kennel PLEASE inspect the actual pen your dog will be kept and ask questions. \r \r You will see the building and the pens are filthy miserable tiny concrete cells (I would imagine comparable to a jail cell) with an access door to another tiny external concrete space. There is nothing for your dog to play with, no dog bed to sleep on and no grass to play on or do its business. Your dog will not have the opportunity to run outside or play with other dogs as all dogs are isolated from eachother and not allowed out. They are just locked up in the tiny concrete cell until you bail them out. Unfortunately I was in a rush when I dropped off my dog and did not learn all this until I picked her up.\r \r The owner seems nice enough and the grooming service was satisfactory at best. Great Kennel 7/28/2010

I absolutely love Apolda Kennels. John grooms all three of my dogs. I just had a grooming emergency with my Yorkie (he got stuck in a patch of burrs) and John made time for my pet. I highly recommend Apolda Kennels. more

EXCELLENT SERVICE 6/17/2010

Apolda Kennels is a great place to take your dog and I don't think there is a better person to care of them then John. He has been taking care of our pets for over twenty years including boarding, grooming and training. We even had a dog that was blind and John took her into his house to take care of her while we were away on vacation!!!....Thanks for all the great years of excellent service John more

Great Place - Highly Recommended! 11/20/2009

I have been taking my golden retriever to Apolda Kennels for several years now and have never been happier with his grooming and treatment. I have nothing but praise for the handling he receives there. I receive a dog that has enjoyed his day out and comes home looking well cared for. I have never seen any upset animals there in all of our visits - a true testament to their care. We will continue to bring our dog there and I encourage everyone to do the same - you will not be disappointed! John is not only very caring to the animals, he is very reasonably priced which is a bonus! more

Apolda Kennels is AWESOME! We have been take Indy there for 7years now for everything from boarding to bathing. John and the rest of Apolda Family truly care about the pets that visit. We felt lucky to have found a good kennel and such wonderful people! Cor M more

Apolda Kennels is not a good place to take your pet! 10/22/2009

Took my dog there for a grooming a few years ago and he jumped off the table with leash around neck causing him to hang momentarily until the groomer came back to him. Broke blood vessels in eye and caused a lot of pain. Groomer didn't apologize and didn't pay vet bill either. Major jerk about it. This place is not good! more

Very Satisfied Customer 10/16/2009

Over the last 10 years I have boarded my 3 dogs at Alpolda kennels and am very pleased with their service. My dogs have always come back to me clean and healthy and in good spirits. They were especially careful with my older dog of 16 years who was arthritic and almost blind. My dogs always liked the owners and would come up to them. I will continue to bring my dog to Apolda kennels. more

Apolda Kennels is reasonably priced and wonderfully consistent 10/12/2009

I've used this business for years for our yorkshire terrier, Lacey. Lacey is always healthy and happy when we pick her up, and since she's so small and can fit through the enclosure that he keeps all the other dogs in, he has kept her in the main office. Where he says, she is so cute, that she's a distraction to his employees. I highly recommend Apolda Kennels. more

Apolda Kennels is the only kennel we trust 10/4/2009

I would highly recommend taking your dog to Apolda Kennels. When ever we go out of town we know we can trust John to take care of our 3 year old Huskie, Skyler. Wether its for just the weekend or as long as 5 days, Skyler is always clean and just as we dropped her off. John is also very easy to get a hold of, friendly, and very reasonably price. He has also went outside his normal hours to meet my schedule. For these reasons, we recommend Apolda Kennels to anyone looking to kennel their dog. more

Owner Message

  • Apolda offers pet boarding in 15 foot long by 5 foot wide by 6 foot high individual indoor/outdoor runs. The inside is heated and air conditioned. Your pet must be up to date on rabies (RV), distemper (DHLP) and parvo virus (PV) vaccinations. We recommend your dog be up to date on bordatella. Pet food is provided as part of the boarding service. You may bring your own food if you wish. The food should be in a hard bottom, sealable container. Medications will be administered if supplied.
