Great food and service, but beware the amenities! 2/20/2009

As a 15 year resident of Syracuse, I have known that Antonio's has a reputation for excellent food and a nice dining experience. Although we had never patronized the restaurant as private customers, my husband and I attended a Christmas party about 4 years ago in their upstairs banquet area and were very impressed with the quality of the food, service and ambiance. We decided to try Antonio's again to celebrate our February birthdays. Upon entering the dining area, we admired the pleasant decor. However, we were amused and dumbfounded by the quite obvious dead roses in the vases on every table. I appreciate the effort to extend Valentine's Day, but they really looked a little ridiculous. And they were not just a single rose in a bud vase, but at least a 1/2 dozen dead red roses on each table. Wish I had seen them on Valentine's Day; I'm sure they were beautiful. After our little chuckle over the roses, we reviewed the menu which had a large selection of entrees. Our waitress recited several specials as well. Everything sounded wonderful. Hubby ordered veal parm which was very generous in portion size and quite delicious. I had one of the specials - steak with gorgonzola cheese and tomatoes, and a side of garlic mashed potatoes. Delicious! The waiters and waitresses were very attentive, regularly filling our water glasses and checking with us. We were both very satisified with our meals and overall experience until- - we used the restrooms. To my dismay, I was directed to a very small and unattractive bathroom. The cramped space made it difficult and uncomfortable to move around other people. Furthermore, the facilities (toilet, sink, and floor) were very dirty and in desperate need of attention. I'm not just talking about paper on the floor. These facilities had not been cleaned in a long time. Overall, with so many other restaurants to try, I will have a hard time returning to Antonio's until the restroom situation is corrected. Pros: Great food, large portions, excellent service Cons: Dirty bathrooms; a deal breaker for me! more

Disappointed at the quality of the steak 1/25/2009

I took an out-of-town guest to Antonio's, thinking they would be getting some of the best Italian food Syracuse has to offer. Boy was I disappointed. My food was completely substandard. I had their steak, which believe me was not cheap. It was extremely sinewy, fatty, and served cold. Having gone to Antonio's many times in the past, I can tell you the food is really uneven. There have been times when I've had really excellent meals; there have been times when it's been mediocre. But this most recent visit reached a new low. I'll think twice before I go there again. Pros: Traditional atmosphere; good service Cons: Food quality is uneven more

Amazing Italian 5/20/2008

I'm not a huge fan of Italian as most Italian restaurant's seem very similar. However, Antonio's stands out. I've been all over the U.S., and this is truly one of the best restaurant's I've ever been to. Pros: The food is amazing Cons: Location is tough. Not in the best area. more

Could be best Italian you've ever had 2/22/2008

Antonio's has to be the best Italian restaurant in Syracuse. An appetizer of fried meatballs were large, plentiful and the best I've ever had (hard to admit being an Italian from Brooklyn). My main course (shrimp and scallops fra diavolo) over linguine was flavorful with just enough spice. A raspberry cheesecake dessert was also terrific. To top it off, this outrageous meal was accompanied by prompt, courteous service by the lovely Tara. The prices are not cheap but well worth the money. A must try! Pros: Food and service more

Outstanding Food ! 2/9/2007

I've been looking for a ""real-good"" Italian restaurant around here since we moved up here from CT. I can tell you....... I found it. Excellent thorough service, food was delicious. Bread could have been warm, portions were LARGE, dessert was very good, look forward to going back soon. Ciao..........\r Pros: Excellent food, menu has something for everyone Cons: Figure about $40-50 a head incl. before meal beverage through dessert & coffee more

Best Restaurant in Syracuse 2/2/2006

My family and I had dinner for a special celebration. We were blown away with how wonderful the overall experience was from the time we walked in the door and were greeted by the friendly bar tenders to the prompt seeting by the hostess and the wondeful, knowledgeable service by the waitstaff. Antonio's offers a menu to make everyone happy with a range of food from basic pasta dishes to extensive seafood and steak and veal selections with a variety of specials every night. The atmosphere of reminds me of a charming italian bistro in Manhatten. The upstairs facility provides an intimate, luxurious setting for any small to large party who wishes to be the center of attention. I can't wait to go back! Pros: varity and quality fo, excellent service, comfortable atmospher Cons: medium size facility more
