Just ok. 11/2/2009

Over rated. Atmosphere is ok but nothing special and the same for the seafood. I love the seafood on the Gulf coast but this didn't come close. Menu offerings limited and entree accompaniments not very appealing. Just didn't suit me. Pros: Great service. Cons: Restrooms upstairs. Needs some sprucing up. Food just ok. more

AMAZING SERVICE 10/8/2008

The best thing about the place was the service and the food! Ansons has a great ambience for a romantic dinner or get together with friends. My food was fantastic. My steak was perfectly cooked and delicious. My friend has the scallops which was a tasty southern treat. Truely noteworthy. I will definetly be returning! Pros: Excellent Customer Service more

Need of a makeover, but acceptable food 3/31/2008

Amidst an array of great restaurants in Charleston, I found this one to be very average for the price as well as on a scale of culinary creativity. My wife and I had spent a week in Charleston imbibing on the wonderful history, charm and restaurants. And because of the reviews we had read, we chose this one for our last dinner. Some of these reviews must be a little dated concerning the decor (really blah) because this place was in need of a makeover; indeed far from charming, but we had a good dinner but not spectacular. My wife had the snapper and I had the trigger fish both of which were cooked well, ample in portion but nothing to be ""abuzz"" about, unless abuzz implies large portions, which they were. However, all that being said, the best experience was the service; it was excellent. Pros: Prompt, friendly and knowledgable service Cons: Quality, creativity and price do not match more

Overrated!!!! 6/18/2007

I was down in Charleston to celebrate my wedding anniverary and choose this place to have dinner. For a place that I read to be rated so highly, i was very disappointed. It was a very noisy place and my steak was overdone. I am glad my wife's yellowfin tuna was great.\r \r I hate going to these trendy places to only find out I could have gotten a better steak at a chain restaurant :( more

Go now! 6/12/2006

The food and service was great! They made the most incredible side of grits.\r I had the jumbo lump crabcake with spicy aioli and a roasted corn salad for an appetizer\r and it was delicious. For an entree I had the fried shrimp with french fries and vinegar slaw.\r Everything was awesome. My husband had the fried flouder and that too was terrific.\r We made reservations here because it was recommended by someone we met.\r I'm so glad we did. My only complaint was that the kid's menu was really expensive.\r It was $7.50 for a bowl of plain pasta. Meal came out to a little over $100 for 2 adults and 1 child. Pros: Close parking nearby. great service, terrific food Cons: Expensive kid's menu more

Best Southern Food I've Ever Had 7/14/2005

Anson should be declared a Mecca for lovers of Southern/Low Country food. I never thought grits could taste so good. Everyone should order the shrimp with grits for an appetizer. You may have had this dish before, but it has never tasted as good as this one does. Anson gets the little things incredibly right. The succotash under my grilled snapper was a delicate combination of corn, okra and lima beans so beautifully put together. She crab soup actually tasted like crab instead of the overly creamed and sherryed versions that other places try to pass off. For dessert, skip some of the French style items and go directly for the banana cream pie. Again, this is something youve had before, but the homemade crust and the homemade banana pudding take this dessert to a whole other level. Pros: Food, Shrimp&Grits, Great Staff Cons: Bread was Plain more

Amazing place 6/13/2005

Anson is a delicious, beautiful Charleston find. The seafood to die for and it is located in an elegant Lowcountry style building. It's a little pricey (15-20 for an entree) but more than worth the cost. Gets a little crowded on weekends, but has a great ambience. Service is normally excellent. Pros: fast seating more
