Terrible Sevice, Mediocre Cold Food, Reservations pointless 2/15/2008

We have eaten here at least half a dozen times and each time the service has been worse than before but last night was the topper. After having made a reservation, we arrived to find a circus. When a waiter finally noticed us waiting to be seated, he mentioned that we could take whatever table was open. We waited by an open table only to be told by the owner that the table was taken. After waiting 20 minutes for our order to be taken, the appetizers took 40 minutes and were cold. They ran out of bottled water. Then they ran out of desserts after we had ordered those with the appetizers and entrees. All this while watching other parties who had been seated well after us receive their food. Lousy service and mediocre food will guarantee that we won't ever return. Too many other options in SF. Pros: Can't think of anything. A disaster all around Cons: Just food, service and atmosphere. Reservations clearly don't matter. more

Very poor service at ridiculous prices 2/14/2008

Taking my girlfriend out for a very special Valentine's night was a disaster due to the horrible service at Annie's. To start, we had to wait more than 30 minutes before the waiter made it to our table to get our order, and then again another 30 minutes before the appetizers arrived. During our wait, we had to ask for bread and water several times before he remembered. The two tables next to us were equally ignored, and we all discussed simply leaving, as no food was coming to any of us. However, there were some lucky tables across the room that were getting their food quickly... people who had arrived much later than any of us. After the hour long wait, the food finally arrived, and was actually pretty good. Clearly the kitchen staff knows what they are doing, but as the service was so poor, it was difficult to really enjoy the food . The prices were waaaay too high for what we experienced. Overall, not a place I would ever go near again. more

Owner dishonest about food and seating, server great 11/18/2007

I made a reservation for 1 on Open Table because I live in the neighborhood. Annie had decided I should sit at the bar so she could keep her tables open for couples. She said that I requested the bar, but I checked my reservation on my phone and it said no such thing. Can you imagine trying to dine on a bar stool when your 7 months pregnant? Then she said I could sit at her work table near the kitchen if I wanted, she just had to move her things, shocking. I asked about the crab cakes because we recently had an oil spill in the San Francsisco Bay which keeps the crab season closed due to the toxicity of the oil. She must not have seen the news because she told me it was local thinking this is what I wanted to hear. In spite of her dishonesty, the server Mark was great, he brought out each appetizer individually. The texture of the beef carpaccio is wonderful and the muchroom open raviolli is good too. The ahi tartar on the other hand is pretty bad it is overpowered with too much lime and avocado, which makes one wonder if this is to conceal a talapia or albacore tartar as ahi. Pros: Service Cons: Owner is cheap & dishonest more

Best Service in City 10/19/2006

My wife and I have eaten at Annie's on 3 different occasions and enjoyed the food each time. The last 2 times we were fortunate to have Mark as our server. My wife and Ihave discovered that Mark is the ""gem"" of Annie's Bistro. I was surprised to find out that he is not the owner brcause he seems to have everything running smoothly and obviously experienced and knowledgable about the food and wine. Mark makes dining out a truly memorable and funny experience. He made us both feel very comfortable and very important. more

intimate, romantic restaurant. 9/8/2006

The food is delicious, the service is warm and welcoming when you enter the restaurant, and the meal was a great value. However, when it's crowded during peak times (Friday, Saturday after 7pm), sometimes the waitstaff may not be as attentive. There aren't too many tables, so if you can't make reservations, try to snag a seat at the bar. Pros: great food, good value Cons: service can be spotty during peak hours more

Great place-could use better service! 2/15/2006

The place is very cute and intimate, a great special occasion or date place. I made reservations here for valentines day, but when i called to confirm they had lost the reservation! They did say that we could come to their third seating at 9:30 so all was not lost. The food was excellent and very nice portions. However, the waiter could use some enthusiasm and they had not told us that it was a fixed price menu. Although it was very reasonably priced, it was a limited food selection, and on top of that, they had run out of many of the options! Overall, I would come back here because it was very cute and the food was good. But they could work on the customer service and the food availability! Pros: Inexpensive, Romantic, Good food Cons: Customer service, Limited food selectio more

New Chef - Fabulous Food 8/28/2005

I've been eating at Annie's Bistro about once a week since last winter. I've always enjoyed my evenings there, but now that Annie's best chef has returned to the kitchen, it just keeps getting better. Great food, great wine -- and you can have a quiet conversation in a normal tone of voice instead of the abbreviated barking that passes for conversation in bigger, noisier restaurants. Annie's is a great place to relax and enjoy the good things in life. Pros: 1 California bus stop, friendly service, very good wines Cons: limited parking, no weekend dinners more

Nice quiet, private place, but horrible food 7/15/2005

Annies has all the makings for a potentially very nice ""hidden treasure"". However, the food is just not up to par. It is a shame that such a nice spot serves subpar food. Portions are small, and nothing reached my expectations. The food was bland, and expensive. I wish the place was better considering how close I live to Annies. Pros: nice ambience Cons: bad food more

Excellent food and service and a good value! 2/22/2005

Annie's consistently gets better, continually striving to offer high-end, consistently wonderful food and service at reasonable prices - and succeeding! I've been going to Annie's since it opened a few years ago, and it's a true gem. Annie and her staff make you feel at home - and although we eat out quite a bit, I've yet to find a restaurant in SF that can match Annie's in atmosphere, food, personal service and value. Pros: Personal Service, Food, Low-key atmosphere more

Flawless Food 12/31/2004

My boyfriend and I had dinner at Annie Bistro for New Year's Eve. The food was excellent. Overall, the service was great and catering to our need. The pear salad, grilled lamb, filet mignon, cheesecake, and apple tart were so yummy. Definitely, we will come back to this restaurant with many visits in the future. Keep up the good work Annie Bistro! Pros: Date place & intimate, Execllent service, Reasonable price more

Great place for a date 11/20/2004

This is a gem of a restaurant. I tried one of the best filets I've eaten in a long time, and the service was impeccable. You couldn't choose a better spot for a date. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience more

This was a great find! 7/15/2004

I had passed this place several times on my way to another restaurant so we finally decided to try it. ""Annie's"" was a great find! My pork chop wasn't overcooked and the vegetables were flavorful. My companion had the steak and deemed it ""very satisfying."" The service was casual and friendly without being obnoxious, but they clearly want (and appreciate) your business. It's a small place (which I like) and the interiors vaguely reminded me of a small bistro in Paris. I been here about four times in the last year. One meal wasn't memorable (was the chef having a bad night?), but otherwise, it's a nice place. Pros: Food, Service more

tres charming 6/29/2004

wonderful overall - great food, excellent wine and friendly service. The filet was prepared perfectly. I noticed this place says it a ""neighborhood gem"" - that sums it up perfectly. It took me a while to try this place since I don't live in the neighborhood but it's worth the trip and I will be going back. Merci! Pros: fresh, flavorful food, yummy wine, great service Cons: , put something) more

go before it's discovered 5/24/2004

Definitely check this place out before it gets too well-known. My girlfriend and I both loved our meal. chicken and filet were outstanding and everything was very reasonably priced. The service was professional yet friendly. Pros: food, inexpensive, service more

Surprisingly Fantastic 5/18/2004

Well, I had passed by this place several times and finally decided to check it out. To be honest, from the outside, wasn't expecting too much. Well, once inside, you see what a charming place it is...you can tell the owner paid attn to the details. Lovely decor. The service was super - attentive and helpful w/o being overbearing. And THE FOOD - WOW! It was fantastic. Carmelized Pear salad was delicious and the Filet were as good as I have had anywhere, if not better than most places. Very impressive. I learned that the chef was trained by Michael Minna, which explains the big tastes coming out of such an unassuming place. So cute and very reasonably priced that it's worth a trip to Pac Heights. Neighorhood Gem is right! Pros: wonderful food, excellent service, charming place more

don't let this one go! 3/25/2004

Recently moved to the neighborhood, and found this by accident. What a delightful experience! I'm a picky food snob -- I eat out often (and wordwide). My take--The food was terrifc, the staff attentive and very courteous. My only concern--they weren't crowded (and Solcitce next door was packed). I tried again one evening (after 9p.m.) and they had closed early due to lack of diners. I don't understand the review that dissed the ""brunch"" they had -- I don't think Annie's is open for brunch. Must have gotten the WRONG restaurant. Pros: great food, attentive staff more

will not be back 12/22/2003

I called and made reservations for two. I was told no problem on the phone and was excited to check this place out. When we arrived I was told that they no longer accept reservations for parties of two (new policy that they just made that day and oh they had tried to call and tell me which I had no message on my phone about at all) and asked if we would mind sitting at the bar to eat instead of a table. We were already there so it was like they wanted us to just leave????? I said we would wait for a table. So we ordered wine and waited 45 minutes for a table and then were sat at our table. The service was then ridiculously slow and food was only okay. I would not recommend this place at all!! Cons: rude!!!, bad service, mediocre food more

10 1/7/2003

Intimate, friendly staff and excellent food. Everything in the menu sounds just as good as it taste! Watch out for the chef's special as it is to die for... A wonderful dining experience. Pros: romantic atmosphere, affordable more

A neighborhood gem 8/8/2002

What a treat it was to find this new bistro in the neighborhood! Annie's is a lovely place with exceptional service and scrumptous food. The wine bar was also a delight. Even if you don't live in the Pacific Heights area, this would be a destination restaruant. I'm definitely going to be a regular. Pros: intimate, great brunch Cons: hard to find, can be crowded more

Eat, Drink and Be Merry 7/25/2002

Eclectic, inventive dishes served by a warm and attentive staff with surprisingly fair prices--hard to imagine a better dining experience. Delicious from appetizer to dessert (don't skip the ginger creme brulee). Annie's is a what a bistro should be-charming, cozy, and a place you go back to. Well worth the wait and tight seating. Pros: Impeccable staff, warm atmosphere, wine bar Cons: limited seating more
