We used Animal Care Unlimited for our pets for about 6 months because they are located conveniently and advertise emergency services. They saw our ferret and our cockatiel.\r
When I called to schedule an initial visit for the bird, they quoted me $50. We went, they manhandled our rescued bird roughly by the tail, and then announced they wanted to do $300 in tests on him. They treated us poorly for feeding him seed at the time since he was starving himself rather than eat pellets and offered no advice to help with the transition. When our cockatiel had an accident and needed emergency care, they turned him away because ""the on call vet doesn't do birds"" and sent us across town.\r
Initially, I was far happier with their ferret care. The initial visit was as quoted and they boarded for a reasonable price, although he came back unused to his litterbox, which they assured me they would use. Last week, I arrived home to find him having made a jailbreak and laying, unconscious, halfway between the bars of his cage. I immediately rushed him around the corner to AUC. They performed x-rays and put him in an incubator on oxygen. When I went home to get food for his overnight, the vet called to inform me that he had passed. I was hysterical and my husband went to make arrangements. The office staff offered no sympathy and were rude to him when he requested an itemized bill. They charged us $200 for a half hour of care! My husband told them they need to straighten out their customer service and to delete the bird from their files. We will not be going there again.\r
I have spoken to several other people who have had similar issues with this office, including one person who was charged $3000 after authorizing $200 for care of an elderly pet.
