American Family Care service is unacceptable 3/14/2011

Worst doc in the box ever. I work at a hospital, and I came to American Family Care because I thought they would be quick. I was wrong. I waited in the lobby over 45 minutes and it wasn't even crowded. Once I got back to a room it was two hours until I saw the doctor and she ordered a urine and blood sample when she came in. Could she have not done that when I got in the room two hours before? The staff is extremely unfriendly. The lobby and room were filthy. The lab tech told me it would be 20 minutes for my tests to come back, but actually ended up being an hour. After getting back the results I waited another thirty minutes for the doctor to dismiss me. So instead of being treated for something that shouldve taken maybe an hour it actually took four hours. Horrible service, horrible staff, I would NEVER recommend this facility to anyone. more

Slow and not sure they can read an xray 10/29/2010

I got hurt at work (fell and hurt my wrist and knee) was sent to AFC. There I waited about 45 mins. before going to an exam room, Dr. came in for 3 mins. or so and then left. I waited about one hour for the xray tech to come and get me, had my xrays and then back to the exam room to wait some more. It was only about 20 mins. this time and he came in and told me my knee was just worn out and I had chipped a bone in my wrist. They put a brace on my knee and one on my wrist and after a little longer I was sent home. My wrist hurts like crazy, my knee hurts and now my chest and back hurt worse than my knee or my wrist. The knee brace is so tight I can't get it back on and the wrist brace doesn't seem to help. I took the xray to my new primary care Dr. and he said my knee has some arthritis and is not worn out and gave me some anti-inflammatorys which help my knee tremendously. I guess they might be ok for some things but I have had some mediocre to bad visits. Only go if you can't more

Worst service ever!!!!! 10/20/2010

The one on 280 was the worst experience ever... I had to practically demand shots for a common cold even though they wanted to draw blood (but no one could actually find a vein - so that was out). any way - when I rec'd the antibiotic shot... I felt something wet & thought it was blood... The girls says "there's always a bit of "ooze" when you get a shot. Did she think I believed that?!! Worst service ever!!!!! more

Worst place to go! 8/26/2009

i hate dealing with rude ass people! i went in only to be examined by a doctor who seemed spaced out like he didn't know what was going on. i got my blood drawn from a guy who obviously didn't want to be at work that day. and i was promised to get called back to be sent to a specialist only to have never been called back i had to call them. the experience sucked never going back! more

Waiting too long 4/17/2009

Every time I go in there I have to wait at least 4 or 5 hrs. Then I get to see the Dr for about 5 min, then he leaves and I have to wait another hour, comes back in and leaves. Make sure you ask for exactly what you want them to look at and exactly what you want them to do or you will have waisted your money. You have to tell them. I have been waiting for 3 weeks for an appointment to a specialist and still don't have one. more

Dumbass 4/25/2008

About a year ago I passed out at work. I was on my period and I bleed heavily, so it's very likely I got light-headed from blood loss, as well as the severe cramps. I'm familiar with these symptoms, I have a problematic period and it's common for me to get too weak to stand. I went to American Family Care in Gardendale for pain killer, not because I passed out. So I filled out the form, explaining that I had severe cramps and that I had passed out. I waited maybe an hour before I was called and by then the cramps had gone away all on their own. When I saw the doctor I didn't go into as much detail as I should have because I expected him to have read my chart. Not so. He told me I should see a specialist about my heart (I was 19 at the time, by the way), thinking that was what caused me to pass out, when obviously it was because I have menstrual problems. I never went to a specialist, and I've yet to have any problems with my heart. So basically I paid to suffer in a public waiting room more

Unacceptable 4/17/2008

Not being able to contact my 4-yr-old child's pediatrician yesterday, I brought him to American Family Care Clinic in Gardendale. I filled out his paperwork and we waited for 45 minutes or so (with hardly anyone there). After they took him back they determined he had 100 degree fever. He was complaining of a sore throat, so the doctor came in to look at his throat. He had a little trouble getting my son to open his mouth wide enough (he wasn't being wild and unruly, just nervous about having something stuck in his mouth), and after spending only literally only about 2 minutes with him he told me he didn't have time to spend on an uncooperative child with all of the patients they had in there and then he told me I would have to try to get an appointment with his pediatrician or with Children's Hospital. I told him I had been there for about an hour, but he was very abrupt and just told me he would have the office manager come and talk to me and then he walked out. While I was waiting, more
