I've been dining at Al's Char-House for some time now and need to disagree with the reviewer below me. My drink of choice is usually a Greygoose martini and I have to say that it ...

I love Al's!!! 5/4/2008

I used to live in LaGrange, and me and my friends would always hang out at Al's. My boyfriend's a hunk, and he loves steak. He would order the Charhouse Sirloin- the really big one. I wold get the filet blue sandwich, which was like totally awesome always. I really miss going to Al's since i moved, but i still got friends in lagrange, and we're planning to go to al's this weekend to catch up. They're drinks were sooooo great too! Pros: The steaks are awesome. Good drinks like the Toasted Almond and Texas Sunset! Cons: I live sooo far away from al's! more

Al's Char-House is a great hideaway for awesome steaks and great drinks! 5/1/2008

Yum!! That is all I can say after dining at Al's a few days ago. Everything was super as expected from all the great reviews I've read. Well..... we can subtract those psycho negative ones and I highly recommend that you ignore them. It is obvious that someone who is quite upset keeps leaving these! The steaks we ordered were of great prime quality and we had a couple of their famous mixed drinks (Sorry I don't remember the name!). I'm so glad we stumbled into this place as we now have a new famous place to eat. Great job! more

SUPER STEAKS AND GREAT SERVICE! A MUST VISIT STEAKHOUSE! 5/1/2008

My very good friend and I went to Al's Char-House for dinner last night and had a pleasant time. The steaks were really great as everyone has said. They were tender and tasted like prime to us. The whipped potatoes were very tasty and the cream of chicken soup we had was literally the best soup I've ever had! My friend and I shared a pecan pie which was served warm and verrryy good!! The drinks were good as well; we ordered a bottle of merlot which was very good with our steaks. The service was very good and we were taken care of by a server with a great big smile. I'm not sure what's up with all the weird negative reviews here but they sound like a bunch of garbage to me and probably written by someone who got fired from there or something. I advise you to read them and judge for yourself. Back to my review... we'll be back! -Anand Pros: Tender and good quality steaks, healthy alternatives, beautiful ambiance and friendly service! more

Tender steaks, fun atmosphere, great music, pleasurable experience! 4/29/2008

Based on the reviewer below me I would say that he neither went to school based on the grammar let alone writes reviews for restaurants. Sounds to me like a competitor or such. My family dined there last month and everything was great! The service was quick and friendly. The quality of the food was remarkable especially considering the lower than normal steakhouse pricing. My wife and I shared a filet mignon and BBQ chicken. The filet was very tender and melted in our mouths. The BBQ chicken was cooked perfectly and was juicy. We both loved the BBQ sauce which was sweet with a little kick to it. We somehow managed to squeeze in a cheesecake for dessert which was very good as well. We enjoyed the music which to us was more appealing than the normal country music you'd normally expect to hear. The huge fish tanks were a neat touch as well. Highly recommended from us! Pros: Great steaks, low prices, family friendly restaurant, neat decor! more

Al's Char-House.... Great Food, Service, and Drinks! Huge Steaks!! 4/28/2008

We were looking for a new place to try so we stopped in to Al's. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who sat us promptly. There were six people with me; a few friends and a co-worker. We started off with an appetizer combo which was just huge and full of different samples from other appetizer.... the chicken fingers were my favorite and the BBQ sauce was nice n' spicy. Were all seemed to be drinking something different. I had a margarita which was awesome... pretty strong too! For dinner I ordered the beef kabob which was really big and almost something you have to see to believe. It was served with two skewers with vegetables and over a bed of rice pilaf. The steak was good and tender. I know my steaks and can tell you that it was either prime or choice for sure... I'm leaning towards the prime cut based on it's tenderness. The vegetable were cooked just right where they were charred but still fresh and crisp. The other orders I remember were a king filet, porterhouse, and burger. Everyone said they liked their food so there were no complaints here! I ended up taking home quite a bit of food which I ate the next day. Some conclusions I picked up: the atmosphere was very relaxing, our server was knowledgeable and quick to our requests and most of all the food was great. We've been to ""fancy"" steakhouses before but found Al's to be a more relaxing and ""real"" restaurant where you can just be yourself. We hung around for a couple drinks afterwards as well. There seems to be some mixed and almost comical reviews; Some of them almost sounding like they were written by the same person so take each with a grain of salt. I'll be back and I already know what I'll be ordering! Keep it up guys! Pros: Great tasting and tender steaks, awesome drinks, fun and friendly restaurant! Cons: None that we experienced! more

BIG TOP NOTCH STEAKS AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE!! 4/25/2008

I decided to try Al's Char-House after seeing a great review of them. I went with a good friend of mine last Wednesday and we had quite a pleasant experience. We were both shocked by the meat cooler display in the front; the first thing you see when you walk into the restaurant. Our server was good but the steaks were just awesome. I ordered a ribeye and my friend chose a queen filet which looked good as well. I always order a ribeye when I go to a steakhouse and let me tell you... this one dwarfs all other in both size and taste. I was actually surprised at how tender this steak was and somehow managed to eat about half of it. We had no room for dessert unfortunately. We will definitely be back soon and I'd recommend this place to anyone who loves steak! Pros: Great quality food with that homemade taste. Comfortable seating and great ambiance. Cons: None at all! more

Al's Charhouse Lacks Originality, Taste, and Class 4/25/2008

I guess some people like Al's Charhouse for the large portions of steaks, cheese fries, wings, etc. etc. But It is certainly people whove never really been exposed to quality... ignorant of all the great places to have sophisticated fare, they cling to places like Al's Charhouse. There is nothing original or interesting at Al's Charhouse... the steaks are very bad quality. Pros: no positivies at al's Cons: bad steak, greasy food, NO ORIGINALITY. more

BEST STEAKS AND GREAT QUALITY FOOD! GREAT FAMILY ATMOSPHERE. 4/23/2008

My family has been dining here at Al's Char-House for many years... almost 10! Our last visit was a few days ago and after reading the angry person below me I felt obligated to put in a real review of this great restaurant. It's hard to come by a restaurant that balances quantity with quality these days and Al's does just that and more. We tend to go there on the weekends so we end up having to wait a few minutes for a table which is no big deal. Once seated the service is always prompt and attentive to our needs. We always start out with either the portobello mushroom appetizer or if we have another couple with us we order an appetizer combo which is VERY GOOD! My family (myself included) love the black bean soup and all of the homemade ""cream"" soups (chicken, broccoli, mushroom..etc). You won't find a soup like this in your local school cafeteria! If my appetite isn't big that day I will go for the salad which is always fresh, colorful, and very tasty. We always go for the homemade house italian dressing which has a nice ""kick"" to it. The steaks at Al's are quite awesome to say the least. I usually go for the king filet and my wife opts for the full slab of ribs. My children seem to always order something different. The portions are huge so we always end up taking home leftovers. No one says you need to eat it all there... we just don't have to cook the next day! The steaks are very tender and juicy and full of taste at Al's. (All I know is they just closed another Morton's... the one in Lombard... hint) We love the veggies and I always ask for a few extra of those huge and sweet carrots. I do believe Al's is supposed to be a steakhouse and it very well is; it is not a place I would recommend to a few girls who want a martini and hor'orderves... go to a city bar for that. We sometimes share a dessert; usually the pecan pie with a scoop of ice cream. I'd say Al's is a great family place for people who want big portions for a great price. We're customers for life! Pros: Great presentation of food, awesome soups and salads, high quality steaks! Cons: none! more

BIGGEST AND BEST STEAKS AROUND...BEST ""WHIPPIE"" POTATO! 6/14/2007

I took out some friend who were in town on business. The service was great and fast and there was no wait. They all got a kick out of the meat cooler in the front entrance...even took a picture to take home with him. The steaks were huge and tasty as always. I got the Jack Daniels steak which is always the tastiest of tasty and a must try for any steak fanatic. There was also an order of King Filet and Filet Alferno (filet with pasta alfredo). I tried that and it was awesome. Will definitely get it next time I go back. Highly recommend!! Pros: Huge steaks, big portions, great value, friendly staff, great wines. Cons: No valet during the week. more

huge portions, average food 6/13/2007

The portions are huge, worth the trip just to see the size of these steaks. Everything terrific except the steaks... the focus is on the size, not the taste. Best kabobs ever! Their whipped potatos are to die for! Drinks are very expensive. more

Best steaks anywhere, huge portions, friendly staff, and reasonable prices. 4/20/2007

Well I went here with a group of friends and family for dinner. The wait was not too long (7pm on a Friday) and we had a great table put together for us (14 people). The food was excellent and by far were served the biggest steaks I've ever seen. Everything came with the dinner from soup or salad, bread, potato, and veggies! They just gained a customer(s) for life. Pros: Huge steaks, good prices, valet parking on weekends, friendly staff.... Cons: Might have to wait a little bit on the weekend. more

huge portions, large selection, great atmosphere 9/25/2006

Have been eating here for years without any complaints!! The portions are huge and the selection is pretty good. The blackbean soup is teriffic as well as the pumpernickel bread served w/sugarbutter!!! YUM!!! The prices are a bit steep, however, you will be going home with leftovers, possibly a second meal, so it's worth it. Go early on Fri or Sat nights to avoid a wait. Also great for kids and large parties due to oversized tables. Pros: Great food w/huge portions (think: leftovers!!!) Big Drinks Cons: can be quite noisy on Fri/Sat nights more

Great Steak 8/16/2006

The service I had was pretty good. No complaints. The steaks are huge, and are cooked perfectly.\r \r My only issue is the price. They are a little high for this type of establishment. Give it a try, but if you want an even better steak for a similar price, you might as well go to a big name joint. more

Great food - Poorest attitude of all staff I have ever seen---walked out without eating (but had to pay) 7/12/2006

Great food - But the poorest attitudes I have ever seen. The manager had the worst. I walked out paying without eating more than two bites. Highly recommend you avoid if you want a pleasurable dining experience (unless your getting take-out) Pros: Huge portions of food Cons: Attitudes of entire staff (especially manager) is completely indifferent to any concept of customer service more
