AVOID THIS PLACE! 8/15/2009

She catered my wedding. The buffet looked wonderful but the food was only ok. The service was POOR! When we booked her, she said she would be onsite but brought in 2 young girls that she hired from a service and then left. These 2 girls had no idea what to do and overstepped their job! They opened up way too many bottles of wine, opened the boxes with the extra favors (fortune cookies that were dipped in frango mint chocolate) we set aside for family/ friends who could not attend and took full plates away when people were dancing. . .We had to be out of Monticello by 4 PM but my husband, a Monticello employee & I were that last out just befoe 2 PM. I asked for a partial refund for the unused hours, the poor service from the girls and for the fact she wasn't there as we agreed. It's less than a 10 min drive from Monticello to her cafe but she said the girls didn't get back until 3:30 pm! Monticello confirmed with her the time the reception ended. When I called her about the refund, she said she sent a check. Out of the $450 bill, she only refunded $17! ! But we also never received a check. \r \r Be warned that if you use her catering, get everything detailed in writing and make damn sure signs it. Or she'll screw you! Pros: Can't think of anything Cons: EVERYTHING! more

WARNING! TERRIBLE CATERING! 1/2/2009

How can you go wrong with sandwiches and dip? Well, Alexa's can! The fruit tray consisted of grapes--that's it; the ""crostini"" for the artichoke dip was just sliced baquette, not toasted, which resulted in a soggy mess; the salmon spread was so salty it was inedible; all this for over $1000! I was embarassed to have this food at my event and actually spent the night apologizing to my guests. You would do much better getting Safeway deli trays if you are looking for a simple sandwich & veggie spread. Cons: Everything more

Poor customer service 12/2/2008

I stumbled upon this cafe and went a few times and the food was good. I went the last time a few weeks ago and the service was very slow. As said by a previous reviewer the condiments are like those you would find in a fast food restaurant or cheesy diner. The cost of the food is not worth the run-down decor and inconsistent service. The servers never seem to know who ordered what and how to run the register. Pros: bread Cons: servers, decor, condiments, cost doesn't match food quality more

Just average 8/30/2008

I agree with another reviewer that when you walk into this place the atmosphere is so homey that you think it could become your favorite breakfast spot. We ordered a coffee and a water and never got a refill on either even though they sat empty for a good 20 minutes. My husband ordered the bacon and cheddar scramble and we thought he had mistakenly received a half order when it came. But we checked with the waitress and she said it was a full order. I guess their scrambles come with about 2 eggs. My french toast was average and luke warm. Our breakfast experience was definitely not worth the $22 we paid. My quest for a good breakfast joint continues . . . more

Perfect little homestyle cafe 6/16/2008

Missed matched coffee mugs, chatty waitresses, delicious down-home comfort food? Bothell is lucky to have Alexa?s. Charming and quaint; I love this place. more

It was just OK, not what you'd expect 3/17/2008

My wife and I went there on March 9 (Sunday). We were seated at the table with the two big easy chairs which I thought was very unique and comfortable. The atmosphere was alive with conversation and it felt very 'homey' and we figured we were in for a big treat. Well the coffee was 'run of the mill' (nothing special) and it didn't get any better after the coffee. I had a veggie scramble which was pretty good and the toast was from homemade bread it was good too. The potatoes were stale and tasteless. My wife had the lemon-poppyseed pancakes and after we'd read (here) about their great pancakes she was dissappointed. The concept of lemon-poppyseed pancakes was a good one but they just missed the mark and the syrup was cheap (the kind you'd expect to see in a Denny's). \r \r As a matter of fact there were a lot of Denny's-esque features; the butter came in those little sealed packages, the jams also came sealed. These are not necessaarily bad things but when you have to wait 20+ minutes for your breakfast and you are paying premium prices you expect something special. You don't expect bad coffee and cheap condiments and pancakes that weren't quite right.\r \r Great concept but less than average food at premium prices with slow service doesn't make it a place we will ever go back too. Especially when the Maltby Cafe is close to here. Pros: atmosphere Cons: cheap condiments, average coffee, slow service, high prices more

Best Cafe Anywhere! 2/22/2008

This place is fabulous. The food is so under-rated I almost hate to write this review because I want to keep this place all to myself. The tomato basil soup is 100% addictive; I crave it at the most random times and is delicious. The breakfasts are fantastic, the coffee is hot, and you can usually get in and out of there extremely quickly. We are very thankful to have discovered this little gem! Best part - usually no wait on the weekends! Pros: Food, quality, service, price Cons: on the rare occasion - service more

Great Catering! 2/19/2008

My husband and I were married in August and used Alexa's Cafe and Catering. We chose to also be married at there Other Site the Montevilla Farmhouse. The food was great and all I heard was compliments from all our family and friends who really enjoyed the flank steak and teriyaki salmon.\r We happened to run into a problem it began raining a few hours before the ceremony and it had to be moved inside. I am so greatful to the staff who worked very hard to make our special day go off without any problems so I could focus on all the things a bride gets to do! I would recommend them to anyone!\r Great staff & Great Food Pros: Wonderful food and hardworking staff more

Horrible Catering 1/16/2008

This is the worst restaurant I've ever ordered from. They forgot one complete order. All of the salads ordered said with dressing on the side and most of them didnt have it, and the BBQ chicken salad was supposed to come with BBQ sauce. It came with katsup instead. The Thai salad dressing was so watery and had no taste. None of the salads came with a roll, which stated it would on the menu. And they screwed up on all the side salads. The only thing that was good was the brownies. Pros: Brownies Cons: Everything else more

Slow service and overpriced 5/12/2007

This was the first time we had been to Alexa's Cafe and we won't be going back any time soon. The wait was not bad (under 10 min), but the service was so very slow. Two people ordered coffee and I ordered a juice. The food arrived at the same time the coffee did. The portion sizes were a tad on the small size for the cost of the food. I had a bacon and cheddar scramble with new potatoes and toast. The potatoes were very dry as was the toast. All in all, I was very disappointed. We were really expecting something wonderful based on other reviews and we just didn't feel that it was even an average place to eat. We will be heading to Maltby Cafe or Brown Bag the next time we head out for breakfast. Pros: Cute decor Cons: parking, service more

Worldwide #1 whole wheat pancakes 4/1/2007

My wife and I are breakfast fare afficionados, and have sampled offerings for breaking the fast worldwide over 37 years. Second only to the Oak Table, Sequim, WA for food quality and quantity is Maltby Cafe, Maltby, WA, followed in close third by Alexa's on Main, Bothell. Meats, eggs, spuds, and toast can often be good in any of thousands of purveyors; however, pancakes are a different story. Pancakes of robust flavor while still light in texture and bulk, not chewy, melt in your mouth sorts of cakes, require well above average skills and ingredients, and few are the breakfast joints up to the challenge. Alexa's, Oak Table, and The Original Pancake House (several Pacific Northwest sites) sit atop that heap. How did we in this little corner of the world get so blessed? Pros: Food, service, value. Cons: Parking more

LOVE THIS CAFE 11/30/2005

I would go here every day for breakfast and lunch if I didn't live in Seattle. This place has GREAT food. The service is a little slow...I don't know why they don't have more wait staff during the busy lunch hour...however that doesn't matter, the food is wonderful!! I especially love the tomato soup and tuna sandwich! more
