Awful Service, Mediocre Food 10/22/2011

I've never written a negative restaurant review online before, but my experience at Akashi was so bad that I felt like I had to warn others. I went with a party of five other people. When we arrived at 6:30 on a Saturday evening, the restaurant was empty except for two groups of three or four people each. Four people in my party ordered sushi, and two ordered from the kitchen. It took an hour and forty-five minutes for the kitchen to prepare those two dishes. During that time, nobody came to our table to check on us, nobody answered my questions about why we were waiting, and other groups came, were served, ate, and left. While we were waiting for our food, our group's plans for the rest of the evening were ruined. We asked the owner, who also works the sushi bar, to comp part of our check, but he refused and started shouting angrily at us. According to him, we should have known better than to show up as a party of six on a Saturday evening without making reservations. At no point when we were there was the restaurant more than half full, and the party of nine that sat near us somehow managed to get their food on time. The manager stood next to our table and glared at us while we paid our checks. Then he shooed us out the door saying ""Be happy! Come back soon!"" Also, while the sushi wasn't terrible, it was also far from impressive. Small portions of fish that wasn't very fresh, and the sushi menu had no original or interesting dishes. My visit to Akashi was one of the worst experiences I've ever had at any restaurant. If you're not one of the people who already love this restaurant for some reason, I would suggest that you stay away. more

Great Sushi - Great Owners 6/24/2009

Great Sushi by a very experienced Sushi Chef. Owned by a husband and wife (Husband is the chef and wife is the host). I was in Greensboro alone for business and looked at various sites for a good Sushi restaurant. I sat at the Sushi Bar and asked the chef to prepare a sushi and sashimi combo of whatever he thought was good. He presented me with a beautiful plate of both, and everything was great. The Wasabi was excellent and appeared to be homemade. Chef struck up a very nice conversation with me while a enjoyed my dinner. He gave me a nice bowl of excellent steamed rice to finish the meal. I also had a Salmon Skin roll, which I saw someone recommended somewhere online. It was very good, but I am not a fan of ""cooked"" sushi. \r \r Best of all, the meal was $25 with my Soda before tip .\r \r I have been to a lot of Sushi places all over the East Coast, and this one one of the most pleasant experiences I have had. Great owners and great sushi. The building is a bit tired, but do not let that stop you. I will be back the next time I am in Greensboro.\r Pros: Experienced Sushi Chef and Family Owned Cons: Not the best location more

Terrific sushi 1/20/2009

This unpretentious little restaurant is a wonderful place to get true Japanese food. The sushi is extraordinary, with lots of variety. The food is always fresh. The service is excellent. You simply will not be dissapointed!"" more

Best Sushi on the East Coast 8/21/2007

At first I was apprehensive about eating at this small Japanese Restaurant, because it is a small building that is hiding beside a gas station. But I assure you I have yet to regret my visit. I have since been a very loyal customer and encourage/recommend others to dine there. They have wonderful beef tataki, superb sushi, and a very nice atmosphere. The restaurant is owned by a husband and wife that do all of the cooking/preparing. If you want a great meal, eat here. I promise you will not regret it. Tell them Brandy sent you. more
