Review content:
I've never written a negative restaurant review online before, but my experience at Akashi was so bad that I felt like I had to warn others.
I went with a party of five other people. When we arrived at 6:30 on a Saturday evening, the restaurant was empty except for two groups of three or four people each. Four people in my party ordered sushi, and two ordered from the kitchen. It took an hour and forty-five minutes for the kitchen to prepare those two dishes. During that time, nobody came to our table to check on us, nobody answered my questions about why we were waiting, and other groups came, were served, ate, and left.
While we were waiting for our food, our group's plans for the rest of the evening were ruined. We asked the owner, who also works the sushi bar, to comp part of our check, but he refused and started shouting angrily at us. According to him, we should have known better than to show up as a party of six on a Saturday evening without making reservations. At no point when we were there was the restaurant more than half full, and the party of nine that sat near us somehow managed to get their food on time.
The manager stood next to our table and glared at us while we paid our checks. Then he shooed us out the door saying ""Be happy! Come back soon!""
Also, while the sushi wasn't terrible, it was also far from impressive. Small portions of fish that wasn't very fresh, and the sushi menu had no original or interesting dishes.
My visit to Akashi was one of the worst experiences I've ever had at any restaurant. If you're not one of the people who already love this restaurant for some reason, I would suggest that you stay away.
