Best bruch and service, hands down 10/5/2010

Frankly, this is the best brunch in Boston. The meals are tasty, large, and of good value. The service is exceptional - never is a glass of water left empty, never are you rushed into eating faster. I love Abe & Louie's - the location and gorgeous look & feel of the restaurant help as well. more

Pricey, but good 7/31/2010

I went to Abe & Louie's with a small group of friends. We were sat outside, overlooking Boylston. They have nice outdoor seating where you can enjoy the outdoors but still feel like you're not in the middle of the busy foot traffic. Our server was very friendly and the wait-staff in general was on top of everything (cleaning off the table, refilling drinks, etc.). We ordered oysters to start which were good. I ordered the ribeye steak which was big and fatty. I ordered it medium-rare - it came out medium - but it was still very delicious. My friends ordered salads and filets. Everyone enjoyed their meal. They have a nice cocktail and wine list and a long dessert menu. I was happy to see they had key lime pie as it is hard to find in Boston. Overall, I had a very nice time at this restaurant. Pros: Great service, cocktails, steaks and nice outdoor seating Cons: Pricey more

Regularly Great Food and Service 1/9/2010

I love that this place is open on days like Thanksgiving for those who want to avoid family or need some quiet time. The place is usually packed and the prices are often ridiculous however our service has been wonderfully warm and fantastic. The bread basket may be my favorite in town. Their food is always good as it better be for that price. They set themselves up so that if it is not perfect, you will most likely be disappointed because of the price. Thank god I never have been. It is reliably and consistently good and a great place to eat when you need to treat yourself to something good. Pros: Regularly Great Food and Service Cons: Prices and Parking more

Terrible Experience 10/21/2009

My parents were in town visitng, and I decided toward the end of their stay to take them to Abe and Louies. BIG MISTAKE. The waiter was an overly rude snob. When we arrived, there were about 15 minutes left where they were still serving the brunch menu. We wanted lunch, and mentioned this to Daniel (I think that was his name) our waiter. He refused to let us have a lunch menu and then refused to let us order cocktails and appetizers until the 15 minutes had passed and the lunch menu would be available. We decided to leave, and upon our exit, the host stopped us to ask why we were leaving. When I explained what had just happened, his jaw was practically on the floor. He said, he would allow us to pick from the lunch menu, and that he would go talk to the waiter. We decided to pass on this 'experience' and go elsewhere. Awful resturant, and even worse waitstaff. I was so embarrased my family and I had to endure this while they were supossed to be on vacation. Pros: None come to mind... Cons: Too many to list... more

You can do better 3/27/2009

My first impression of Abe & Louie's was poor, as the host couldn't seem to find the reservation I had called in two days earlier, and curtly told me to stand in the lobby and wait until the rest of my party arrived. Pros: Very nice waiter Cons: Overpriced for the quality more

Delish! 3/10/2009

I frequented Abe & Louie's on my last visit to Boston. The experience was fantastic! Great food, service and location -- and, most important, great times were had by all. Would definitely recco to anyone looking for a steakhouse dinner in Back Bay. more

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES....or if you like filet...........or customer service 2/26/2009

My last visit here was terrible. My wife and I were craving steak so we headed to A&L. My wife has a food allergy (gluten) that we immediately brought to the attention of the hostess and our waiter. They assured us that they handle this kind of allergy all the time and that there would be nothing to worry about. Sure enough, my wife's salad came out full of croutons. The waiter apologized and sent it back. He then brought out ""another"" salad that upon first glance seemed fine. As my wife started eating it, she found another crouton in the middle of the salad. I assume they just tried to take the croutons out of the original salad. For all of you celiacs out there that know that this is unacceptable as any cross contamination can cause a severe reaction, DO NOT GO TO A&L. My wife's filet was flavorless at best. My strip was fine so i can't complain about that. The manager came out to see if everything was ok. Of course we told him about the salad situation. His response "" I will give you my phone number, please call if your wife get's sick"". Yeah, because, we were going to call him from the hospital at 3am when she gets sick... The best part was that the manager left to get his business card and never came back. Last but not least, we were charged for the salad. Never going back to A&L Pros: strip steak was ok Cons: filet was flavorless,...customer service attrocious,... not food allergy friendly more

Always a great experiance 1/13/2009

No matter what they always strive to a grand high level of customer service and I never hesitate to go or suggest to others that they eat here. Pros: All Pros , just go and enjoy! more

Great Filet! 8/25/2008

This is a great place to go if you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or any special event. The atmosphere is like a study from an old movie with rich woods, high back chairs and white linens. The service was good but a little slow...but the food makes up for it! Their house salad is great and my filet was cooked perfectly! We had a great bottle of wine and shared a dessert recommended by our waiter which was also fabulous! more

I wouldn't 7/22/2008

Few places are as consistently rude and pompous. I am frequently forced to bring clients to Abe and Louie's due to work stipulations and never seem to have a pleasant experience. The Maitre d's that ""welcome"" you do so in a way that exudes arrogance and superiority. This would be excusable if the food backed it up, but I find that Abe and Louie's rides on their name and ""reputation"", and delivers a subpar meal and overall dining experience. You can definitely get over charged at much finer places Pros: You wont have to buy lottery tickets to waste your money Cons: Poor service, arrogance, sub-par meal more

Best restaurant in Boston 7/20/2008

Between the beautiful ambience, consistently delicious food and amazing service, Abe and Louie's has and remains to be my favorite restaurant in Boston. Pros: Everything Cons: No Cons more

It's funny. I was reading all the review before taking my boyfriend here for his birthday. Pros: Friendly staff, Excellent food, Great wine selection Cons: Loud- can hardly hear myself speaking more

Never disappointed 2/20/2008

Abe and Louies can't be beat. I have never had a bad meal here. The servers are attentive and knowledgeable and although the bill can add up, you get what you pay for. I recommend trying the creamed spinach (their no cream version) for a side. Pair your meal with a great martini from the bar or allow the server to suggest a complimentary wine to your meal, either way you won't be disappointed. Pros: steak, wine selection, bar scene Cons: I'll let you know when I find one more

Never had a better steak! 2/15/2008

Since I moved to Boston 4 years ago, Abe & Louie's has been my favorite restaurant. We've gone for anniversaries, valentines, company dinners and Thanksgiving twice! The filet is the absolute best I've ever tasted, the seafood tower is worth every penny if you have a group of 6 or more. I cannot say enough about this place and I recommend it to everyone. if you're looking for a top notch steak and seafood place this is it. I guarantee you won't be dissapointed! Pros: Best in town! Cons: NONE! more

Best fine dinning in Boston 1/18/2008

I have eaten here several times and I am never dissapointed with the highly attentive and friendly wait staff. They are extremely knowledgable and very friendly. The food here is to die for! I am not a steak eater, but everyone I know who eats a steak from here cannot stop raving about it...also the sordfish is unbelievable! If you like salads try the Abe and Louies salad it is very good. This place is clean and friendly, not snobby or pretentious by any means! Be prepared to pay a pretty price as it is expensive, but is worth every penny! I would highly recommend reserving a table! Also it is not a quiet restaurant, I don't mind this at all, but if you are looking for a quiet evening this would not be the place to have it. Great for business dinners because you can talk and not worry that the entire restaurant can hear you. Pros: Friendly wait staff and great food more

Best Boston Steak House 12/3/2007

As a frequent customer of Abe and Louie's I would like to highly recomend this steak house. The food is fabulous and can stand alone as a reason to dine there. The servers are above and beyond a typical wait staff, professional, sweet, and interesting. Abe and Louie's has a comfortable classy friendly ambiance with a large management staff on at all times to assist costumers as well as a friendly welcoming host staff. The hostess here are classy and professional, not to mention very beautiful. I can not recall one incodent where i was not greated as i entered or not thanked on the way out. although the food can seem pricey, the trip to Abe and Louie's is well worth it. Highly recomended, reservations are recomended as well. Pros: food, service, ambience Cons: need reservations of decent time on weekends more

Best steaks in town 10/14/2007

First time in Boston and we asked a local for the best steaks in town and he said, ""Abe & Louie's"". He was right. We were a group of 4 and just walked right off the street without reservations, (which I would definetly recommend). We didn't wait long, though. Our waiter was wonderful and treated us with kindness and a touch of humor. He took the time to explain the menu and offered different options. We started off with the Best Clam Chowder we had ever tasted. Then we headed straight for the main course, the Steaks, accompanied by our sides of spinach and mashed potatoes, which complemented the steaks wonderfully. The Filet Mignon and Ribeye were awesome!!! The steaks cut like butter. To finish off the wonderful meal, we topped it off with Creme Brulee, which was to die for. Dinner for 4 $240 but well worth every penny. Pros: Ambience, waitstaff made us fell welcome, very warm feeling Cons: recommend making reservations more

BEST CHEESE BURGER IN BOSTON 10/10/2007

I go there just for the cheese burger. Cheddar cheese, side of fries- best 13 bucks I've ever spend. I always get great service-you can walk in and sit your self at the bar. The food comes fast and friendly staff. I tried the union strings the other day and was not impressed, but the bread basket and burger are great. you can walk in in casual or business casual-doesn't matter. BUT for the burger you must go at lunch, although i asked for the burger at dinner and got it anyways. more

high quality and exquisite taste 8/30/2007

My mother and I stumbled upon this restaurant and after comparing with the Atlantic fish co. next door decided that Abe and Louise's had more people. We started off sharing the Manhattan fish chowder (special) which did not resemble boston clam chowder at all (a relief). It was a orange broth with tender fish flakes and spicy sausage. The flavor was light, tangy and exciting. We then had the jumbo shrimp cocktail (menu). There were 4 pieces of shimp and two types of dip. The cocktail dip had fresh grated ginger -a good addition. The shrimp were HUGE and fresh- the finest quality possible. I prefer lemon juice and salt because it allows you to fully appreciate the freshness of the seafood, which is only possible with premium quality. This was the best shrimp cocktail I'd ever had. Lastly we shared a lobster steak salad ($25) which wasone whole lobster with one sliced steak on top of some pre-tossed greens. The combination was stunning and the taste is probably not replicable. Overall the price was definately worth it because. 1. the quality is the best. 2. they are very attentive to the sauces and taste 3. the people watching is short of idyllic 4. service is above average (not perfect) 4. seated immediately (weekday, noon). more
