This is one of the most depressing, dirty, miserable pet store I have come across in all of California. I love birds/animals and am always excited to check out a new place. I am SHOCKED at the other reviews I have read, saying this place is great. The size of the actual store is quite large, however they use all but about 15% of it to sell cages/toys etc. The small space they have for the birds them selves is in the center of the store and is very dark and extremely dirt. They have these disgusting wire cages stacked, one on top of another so they can cram as many birds as possible. The cages are made of cheap wire and ALL of them are badly bent from the birds chewing on them. They are all closed with mini pad locks and most of the doors don't line up right so the birds can stick part of their heads between the door and the cage (incredibly dangerous for the bird since he could easily get stuck and injure himself). There was about half of an inch of waste on the bottom of the cages. They looks like they hadn't been properly cleaned EVER. The poor birds who were unlucky enough to get placed in the middle cages (there are about 4 in each stack and they are all pushed right up against the other one), are basically in complete darkness all day, since light cant reach them from the sides, bottom or top due to the other cages. Each cage had one straight wood perch, one beat up, old sad excuse for a toy and two dishes-one for water (all of the water dishes were absolutely filthy and undrinkable), and one for their seed mix which was full of peanuts and sunflower seeds. It looked like a really poor quality cockatiel seed mix with some peanuts added to it. The condition of the birds them selves was beyond sad. Their feathers were dull, most of the african greys-both timneh & congo had already started plucking them selves, as well had a couple of the cockatoos. The female eclectus was is especially bad shape-probably since she needs veggies/fruits even more then the others. The macaws colors were dull and all of their tails were shredded due to rubbing up against the cage and the Moluccan cockatoo actually made me cry he was in such bad shape. Needless to say, all of them were simply starved for attention and one of the cockatoos was banging his body against the side of his cage over and over again...basically he was going insane due to the awful living condition & no human interaction. I could go on and on about what I saw there-but the point is that I was shocked! It really worries me that so many people seem to think that it is alright to allow an animal to be kept in conditions like that. The staff was uneducated and could care less about the birds. While I was there I watched 3 of them trying to get a parakeet out of an overstuffed cage-they sat there laughing as they stuck a huge net into the cage hitting several birds and scaring the rest almost to death. One managed to escape the cage and in a fright flew out and directly into a wall and dropped to the groud-this made the staff laugh so hard a couple of them actually dropped to their knees. The place is awful and should be shut down. They don't care about the birds well being or health-all they care about is money and selling you something. They are heartless and greedy and I don't have a clue how they have been in business so long. If you are a customer of theirs, next time you go, please take a look at the birds. Please ask if they would consider educating them selves and at least-adjusting their diet, cleaning the area, allowing the birds more space (its sad they have so much space they could easily give the birds tons of room-but because they are so greedy they use it all for retail space), and giving the birds some very much needed light. It really kills me to think they are all sitting there, unhappy, unhealthy and uncomfortable. Please help them if you can.
