Not too long ago, A Bird Haven did a remodel which made the store fun and easy to move around in. There was some up-grade to the bird room, the waterfalls are a nice touch, but they did not replace the old cages or deal with the lack of light for the birds. I am hoping they will be able to deal with that as the economy improves.
The bird room is separate from the rest of the store because they have birds out on stands. Anyone can walk in, use the hand sanitizer, and interact with the birds that are out. The cages are not dirty, almost every time I am in there, they are pulling cases to clean them. Birds are flock creatures, they usually hate to be alone in a cage. It might seem crowded to a person, but the birds are happy. I have seen them playing, preening, and going about life while waiting for a new flock to adopt them.
In these economic hardships, many people have surrendered their birds because they can't afford them. I have faced that possibility, and thank the Creator, not had to go there. A Bird Haven has taken in as many birds as they could to rehome. These are usually happy, healthy, tame, friendly birds, a real treasure to find.
I often bring my birds there for toe nails and wing clips, and they always do a great job. I cannot comment on their boarding service, as it is off limits to the public and I have never had the need to use it. I have heard it's not very clean or well maintained, but again that's hearsay and not my own observations.
I don't know what we would do without A Bird Haven to rely on for situations where we run out of something or other. Generic pet stores don't carry near enough supplies for serious bird owners.
