Best Kept Secret in Atlanta 12/14/2010

I've been going to the 57th for nearly 25 years now. As a child, everytime my gradfather (WW2 vet) came into town, we had to go have lunch here. As a kid, it was the coolest thing ever. Headphones so you can listen to the air traffic around PDK and all the airplanes taking off and landing. Later in life, I came here on a date and had a very romantic evening sitting along the runway. A few years ago, I learned that the place had closed and was heartbroken. When I found out earlier this year that it had reopened I was estatic! I became a fan again this year... the food is still A+ and the service is impecable, I had no idea the patio was so amazing. This is one of Atlanta's BEST patio! There is even a bar that opens right up to the outside from the inside... great idea! I was just there this past Saturday and the dance floor was packed. We had a really nice girl take care of us in the lounge. Her name was Asmara. As crazy as it was with all the people and dancing, we still had great service. The only thing I can suggest is to eat in the dinning room before you try and get your groove on on the dance floor!!! We had the full meal before and I suggest the lobster squares and the salmon/shrimp pasta. We had cheesecake for dessert which was amazing. (My husband had the beer cheese soup... he could have had a gallon!!) more

Wonderful Experience 11/17/2010

A group of us went there for dinner tonight. The gentleman at the front desk was pleasnt and accomodating. The food, particularly the Calamari and the Ribeye were outstanding!! The service was attentive and the female manager that approached our table was sincere and pleasant. It was a wonderful experience... we will be back. Keep up the good work, and glad you have reopened! more

We Were Bullied by the General Manager - Tricia Clancy 10/29/2010

During a recent visit to 57th Fighter Group Restaurant our view of this place completed changed because our encounter with Ms. Clancy. My son was looking at the model planes parked on the lawn and was herded away from there by Ms. Clancy like herding an animal, later she rudely demanded my son who was standing up looking at the fire pit to sit down; when I protested the manner of her speaking she told us to leave if we did not like their 'kids-remain-seated' policy. I do not like the policy but they have the right to make whatever policy they see fit. My problem is with the messenger - Ms. Clancy, the General Manager, her tone of voice, facial and body gestures were condescending, to say the least. When I asked the name of the owner, she dismissed my question by waving her arms saying 'I have better things to do' and took off. My 6-year-old son who was well behaved the whole time told me that the lady (Ms. Clancy) made him feel very bad. The customers surrounded us and the staff were quite sympathetic towards us. We got Ms. Clancy's full name, the owner's name from the staff and decided to leave. A staff requested another manager to speak to us and also suggested to seat us inside. A manager came over to talk to us about the situation, since she was quite nice we were considering to be reseated until Ms. Clancy injected herself into our conversation; she shamefully accused my son running wildly on the runway, and me yelling at her. I told her she was unprofessional and disrespectful etc, and she tried to dismiss us by saying that we were making a scene. I only read about and saw on movie/TV of individuals smearing others with lies to justify their own faulty behaviors, to experience it personally is something heavy to take in, because it is not easy to explain to a 6-year old that a person with this type of quality can be 'the boss' of the place, and why she won even she was rude and lying and we had to leave with empty stomach. We left and went somewhere pleasant to eat, and we taught our son that we left because we do not tolerate bullies, dishonesty will not prevail, we will share the bad experience with the owner and the rest of the world via Internet. My family travels all over the world and we had never experienced this type of 'unkindness' from anybody at anywhere until this encounter at the hospitable south of United States of America. I wish the owner of this restaurant would work on improving the professionalism and communication skills of his staff. more

Ridiculously Awesome Place 9/20/2010

This place is awesome. It caters to everyone. HUGE patio, formal dining, casual lounge, great dance floor, DJ, authentic WWII artifacts, I could go on and on. The food is great. Even the chef came by the table to see how our meal was. The staff brought my husband and I champagne for our anniversary. LOVE THIS PLACE!!! more

A great place for Thanksgiving dining. 9/12/2010

Had Thanksgiving there with friends last year. Great food, great service and a wonderful atmosphere. One suggestion, in this economic downturn,it would be best to offer lower prices on entrees at night so that we could enjoy the restaurant more days out of the year. more

Unique Place 8/24/2010

Great tribute, great food 8/13/2010

Great tribute, look for pictures of my Dad and his fellow AAF members of the 66th Fighter Squadron. Enjoyable experience, great food. more

Great food and adult atmosphere 8/5/2010

This was always our favorite place to go to celebrate special occasions. We liked the atmosphere and appreciated not being accosted by children running free and causing distractions. We were very sad when it closed, but were extremely delighted to see 57th reopen and maintain its integrity. We are an older couple and appreciate having a special place to enjoy and dine in comfort. The service has always been good and the people friendly without being overpowering. The food has always be great and we have taken friends to 57th with us on occasion, and they were impressed with this particular restaurant. more

Great Dance Place 8/4/2010

I love the atmosphere in this place! It's a terrific dance spot with an superb DJ who plays EVERYTHING and most anything you want. Good dancers mix with everyday free stylers. Nice mix. Bartenders are also terrific. more

so happy that kids won't spoil this great restaurant 5/12/2010

so happy to hear that kids aren't allow to ruin one of my favorite re-opened spots. kids ruin patios, kids ruin great restaurants, and kids ruin my relaxed enjoyment with beer in hand of this great place. So sorry to the reviewer who wrote the bad review- how about you leave the brats at home and come join the adults in this grown up place. \r great atmosphere, food pretty good- yummy cheese soup, good salmon, great nachos- amazing service and keeps the beers rolling and the brats at home!! Pros: no kids on patio after 5 Cons: food could be a little better more

So happy it's reopened! 4/24/2010

We used to love 57th and were sad when it closed. We are thrilled it's reopened, and so happy to know that there is a place we can go in the evening where we can enjoy a warm spring evening on a patio without children running around everywhere. Thanks to 57th for this inspired idea -- it will keep us coming back! Pros: Child-free patio, best beer-cheese soup in Atlanta more

Great Date Spot! 4/9/2010

We finally made it out to the 57th Fighter Group Restaurant the other night and loved it. We got there an hour before our reservation so that we could chill outside at the bar area and sip on martinis. The restaurant itself was so cool and the people were incredibly friendly. I got the Sea bass and it was cooked perfectly. I'll definitely be back-- I hear they have the best brunch in Atlanta. Pros: Outdoor Patio, Food more

NOT, NOT, NOT Family Friendly!! 3/21/2010

When 57th Fighter Group reopened, I was very excited to take advantage of the great patio. On the first sunny Friday of spring, I planned to meet a group of friends on the patio with our kids. We were promptly told (very rudely) by the Manager that the patio was closed to children after 5:00. They even made families that were already seated and eating get up and go inside! Let's be clear, there was no line waiting to get in. There were only 2 - 3 other tables seated at a time when every other restaurant patio in the area was completely packed.\r \r Inside was not much better. The new ownership has made no effort to make any improvements to a very classic, but very old restaurant. The carpet is dirty and thread-bared. The pictures on the wall covered in cobwebs. \r \r Given this restaurant has struggled over the years with multiple ownerships and is settled in the middle of a very family oriented neighborhood, I unfortunately foresee another closure in the very near future. What a shame! Pros: location Cons: Rude management, dirty restaurant more

Great Food & Atmosphere 3/18/2010

We went to the 57th for our anniversary and were not disappointed. The restaurant is very cozy and views the airfield, so you can have dinner and watch planes come in and out. The service was impeccable, our waiter Ken was fantastic.\r The food was excellent and reasonably priced. The Beer soup is not to be missed! The Blue Cheese stuffed Sirloin was very tasty. Our dinner with leisurely, we were never rushed. We spent the whole evening there and closed the place down. We definitely plan to return. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Fun more

Great place for a date 3/17/2010

My date and I heard from friends that the 57th had reopened, and we just had to check it out. The interior is just as it was before, nostalgic and cozy. We started off with the crabcakes as an appetizer and they were great! And you know you have to have their beer cheese soup (which we did, and you only need a cup)...another winner there...yum! We each decided to have a Grey Goose martini, (which they do very well also) and split a Grilled Romaine salad....yes grilled...what a cool way to add texture and taste.....I will have to try this at home!!! Dinner was challenge for us...we could not decide amoungst the many offerings...our server suggested the Sea Bass with the gouda chesse grits...so we ordered it (it was awesome!!!!) and the Bleu Cheese stuffed sirloin....OMG! it was out of this world!!! The blackberry reduction served with the steak is just to die for! ( I wanted to lick my plate!!!) The service was very nice, attentive and friendly. Needless to say, we were stuffed when it came to dessert. So we will have to try some next time. Our server mentioned that the Sunday Champagne Brunch was back......and hmmmmm, now I can't wait to come back for brunch!!!! Pros: Cozy, comfortable atmosphere, great service Cons: Not enought time to spend there relaxing and dining more

Perfect for a special occasion Sunday brunch 2/17/2010

After having closed down for a number of years, this renovated Atlanta landmark reopened in 2009. My wife and I had our first experience at the new 57th Restaurant for a lovely Valentine's Day Sunday Brunch, and it did not disappoint. Saying there is no other restaurant like it in the city is a great understatement. The unique World War II era atmosphere and view of the PDK runway alone make 57th worth a trip, and the brunch buffet is simply outstanding. At $25 a head, I had high expectations going in and left without an ounce of regret. Highlights include an omelet chef, a belgian waffle chef, and a bananas foster chef to satisfy your sweet tooth. The meats from the carving station and award winning beer cheese soup are also superb. Champagne and/or mimosas are also included (after 12:30pm by law). I've often found that themey restaurants like this tend to underachieve on the culinary side, but this is not the case at 57th - at least for brunch. I've yet to sample from the standard lunch or dinner menus, but I plan to. Pros: one of the best brunches around, airplanes! Cons: a bit pricey but worth it more

A Local Favorite with Classic American Cuisine & World War II Theme

Owner Message
  • Relive the glory of the 57th Fighter Group and step back in time with Atlanta's favorite World War II aviation theme restaurant. The dining experience is inspired with a regional twist on traditional American cuisine in an intimate 1940s European farmhouse setting. We are excited to welcome back old friends and make new ones with our recent reopening. After entering the Atlanta restaurant scene in 1985 and quickly becoming one of the city's favorite destination restaurants, we took a few years out of the spotlight until pleas by friends and the community encouraged the doors to be opened. Renovated and refreshed, the 57th Restaurant is destined to be the place to make memories and celebrate with friends once again. Come join us for an intimate dinner, special event or a drink on the patio. We also have banquet space that can accommodate 100 people.
