I had Melvin Ussing do my taxes last year because I had rather complicated financial happenings for that year. I nearly had a coronary when he showed me that I owed $14,000 in Federal taxes! Being the skeptic that I am, I took the taxes home and went over his "work" with a fine tooth comb. Come to find out, he completely neglected to fill in a portion of taxes that I had already paid. I owed the government around $3000, not $14,000 as he reported. When I went back to his office to show him the error, he let out a hearty laugh, patted me on the back (which I found to be rather deprecating) and told he he'd correct the problem. If it weren't for my own sleuthing, I would have paid 11 grand more than I really owed. I will never go back to Ussing again and I suggest anyone who does, go over their tax returns when they get them back, lest the same thing happens to them. I should have done the taxes myself--I'm sure now it would saved me a lot of money and stress!
