You've got to understand that when you buy a brand new piece of jewelry, you're paying not only for the materials that make it up but also for the labor and the label attached to it. This is why it's so expensive. When you go to sell it to a business that buys gold like Airport Plaza Jewelers, they are only going to offer you money based on the weight & carat of the gold. A small ring, pendant, or chain does not weigh much so you're not going to get a lot of money for it. Most pieces of jewelry are bought for the metal so they can be melted down to make new jewelry. If there are small gems in the item, it usually isn't worth saving them because it takes a great deal of work to extract them & smell stones usually get damaged in this process. This is why even if your jewelry has lots of diamonds or other precious gems in it, they are only going to offer you money based on the weight of the gold. You're better off selling it privately, & the people at Airport Plaza Jewelers will tell you this. Everyone at APJ is very friendly & helpful. They give an honest evaluation of your jewelry & pay fair prices for what they buy. They're happy to look at your jewelry for you if you're not sure what it is you have. They also have a nice selection of jewelry for sale as well.
