Dougs serves up hearty dishes. Best for Breakfast basics. Lunch menu is ordinary and basic and solid. Some items can be pricey if you compare them to the other Mom and Pop diners in Castro Valley. A few years back they took on the dinner crowd, but when that failed they came back pushing their breakfast menu and are doing well. This is a favorite senior hang out and families on the weekend. It closes at 3pm. The high light is Dougs Omelets, some may be pricey and not well presented but they are good and filling. The plate size pancakes are well made. I had a Spinach Omelet that was OK - it just didn't sit right on the plate. For lunch I tried the Rubin Sandwich on rye a bit dry but I enjoyed it and the service is fast and kind. It is crowded on the weekends and Sunday, and parking is OK - but on high shopping days the market next door can fill the lot. Vmedia - Castro Valley
