Expensive and inconsistant 3/26/2011

Expensive and inconsistent. Had breakfast with a group of friends. Service was good, but a couple of us ordered the vegetarian omelettes (all omelette dishes, 3 eggs over $10, with hash browns and toast). One was good, the other was greasy like the vegetables were cooked in grease, then added to the eggs. The veggies were so oily, the eggs would even stick to them. Also the coffee creamer must not be refrig, cause we had one come out of the container in a solid plop into our coffee. With the variety of good breakfast places in Castro Valley (Jenny's, JD's), I would not come here. Also it is true that thier Eggs Benedict does come with "Golden sauce" instead of hollidaise. Strange. more

Dougs Place offers the basics - good and plenty 8/1/2007

Dougs serves up hearty dishes. Best for Breakfast basics. Lunch menu is ordinary and basic and solid. Some items can be pricey if you compare them to the other Mom and Pop diners in Castro Valley. A few years back they took on the dinner crowd, but when that failed they came back pushing their breakfast menu and are doing well. This is a favorite senior hang out and families on the weekend. It closes at 3pm. The high light is Dougs Omelets, some may be pricey and not well presented but they are good and filling. The plate size pancakes are well made. I had a Spinach Omelet that was OK - it just didn't sit right on the plate. For lunch I tried the Rubin Sandwich on rye a bit dry but I enjoyed it and the service is fast and kind. It is crowded on the weekends and Sunday, and parking is OK - but on high shopping days the market next door can fill the lot. Vmedia - Castro Valley more

Doug's Place is an old established Castro Valley restaurant. It features a breakfast menu most of the day. Eggs, sausages, waffles and pancakes are part of the breakfast selection. At lunch, the menu specializes in burgers, fries, salads and sandwiches. Food can be described as "home cooking" and it boasts plentiful portion sizes. Doug's is a meeting place for families and seniors. the local Rotary club also meets there for breakfast several times a month. Food is standard but satisfying.
