First off, I'm from Texas and I love BBQ. Being from Texas, beef is BBQ and we are pretty particular about it. That being said, I wasn't sure what to expect from the Big Easy's take on BBQ.
I had the beef & cochon du lait ("pulled pork") with cole slaw and dirty rice. The meat can dry with sides of sauce, which threw me off a little... meat never comes dry. The beef had a good flavor, but was a little tough. I'm extra critical on that, being from Texas, but it was good. The "pulled pork" I don't really consider pulled pork, more like chunked pork. Regardless, the pork was really good. Tender, moist, and great flavor. My date had the sausage which was the best meat I tried there. The BBQ sauce was excellent. It was sweet with a little kick and brought everything together.
The sides were a little disappointing. The cole slaw was almost like plain cabbage and the dirty rice was a little crunchy. Almost like the rice wasn't cooked all the way. The skillet cornbread was OK, nothing compared to House of Blues. They were out of potato salad, which I hear is fantastic.
The staff was great, ... friendly and funny. Next time, I'm getting sausage & potato salad. I hear they put some potato salad in their gumbo... I'll try that too.
Pros: BBQ sauce, sausage, staff
Cons: not BBQ shrimp, BBQ crabs, or BBQ stuffed potatoes
