Review content:
Five years ago, W.E. Brown installed a new Trane HVAC system in my condo second-home. The system performed flawlessly for the first four years. Approximately one year ago, the system was not maintaining the chosen temperature. Upon visually inspecting the air handler, the green and blue system indicator LED's were punctuated with red flashing fault code indicators. As this was over a weekend, and there was no urgency, I replaced the filter in case this had any bearing. Upon restarting, the system began operating as expected without the presence of the red fault indicators. It continued operating normally for several months, but then repeated the above detailed experience. This time, a filter replacement eliminated the red fault indicators - but for a shorter period of time. Subsequent filter replacements resulted in ever shorter periods. I finally contacted W.E. Brown to have them take a look, and spoke with Erin in scheduling. She was very pleasant to deal with, and we agreed upon a date just three business days out. She also told me that the technician would call me approximately thirty minutes before his arrival. On the morning of the service visit, I was contacted by technician Travis before his arrival. Upon his arrival, Travis first asked about my recent experience with the unit and the appearance of the red fault indicators. He then began his diagnostic procedure which was very thorough. Even though I told Travis that I preferred to stay out of way, he continued to explain his findings. Going through the diagnostic procedure, the fault codes indicated a communication error within the system. In the absence of a "smoking gun" part failure, Travis was able to isolate the probably cause within a very small wiring harness. With an adjustment to the connections of this harness, Travis restarted the unit, and continued to monitor its operation for a reasonable period of time during which it performed perfectly. We discussed my continued monitoring, and plans if there was a recurrence.
