After making a reservation on their website, we went into the store to pick up our car and found out that they charge an extra $55 ""surcharge"" PER DAY for Brooklyn residents, $11 for Queens and $50+ for the Bronx (based on the address on your driver's license). Not only is this a huge ""surcharge"" (it doubled our daily rate), it also is hidden in the fine print (i.e., they don't tell you about it until you arrive at the office). The fee by borough is completely arbitrary. The agent told us it was based on car theft rates but people who live in Manhattan are not charged this fee no matter where they drive the car and it didn't matter that we were taking the car to CT. Lastly, they expect you to pay another fee for insurance as well - isn't car theft covered by insurance? Do NOT rent from Dollar! Cons: Stole $55 from us
