Review content:
Avoid Chapman Auto Repair Service. They have an outrageous mark-up and price gouging when you need emergency repairs to get your vehicle back on the road.
My ignition switch cylinder locked up on my Chevy truck and I was not able to get started. This was in the parking lot of the shopping center directly across the street from Chapmans. The ignition switch replacement requires removing a plastic housing over the steering column, unplugging the old lock cyclinder, getting the replacement part, having a locksmith set the cylinders, and snapping the new cylinder into place. I thought this would be a minor repair and charge. I was very wrong.
The repair cost was $350. The original quote was $305—the service rep attempted to add an additional $50 over what I was originally quoted for the ‘tow’ fee. I told him his original quote should have included all costs. He reduced it back to $305.
I made a big mistake walking across the street to have this Chevy dealer repair my Chevy. After the fact, I got on the phone and contacted other repair services. The local locksmith would have come to my vehicle and done the job for $65, parts and labor included. The nearby Ford Dealer in Star Valley would have done the job for $164.
I don’t mind paying for services rendered—but the Chapman cost was outrageous price gouging and overcharge—the part retails at the local AutoZone for $40. Chapman sent the lock cyclinder to the locksmith who charged them $15 to reset the cylinders. Chapman added that to my bill. Their markup on the labor to remove the plastic housing accounted for the rest of the charge. I had to send two emails to the service manager before I got a response to my concerns about their pricing..
Unless you have money to burn, take you vehicle elsewhere for repairs. This place will rip you off big time.
