Review content:
I recently purchased my second dog from Steve's. Having heard that Steve's gets there puppies from puppy mills, I did a bit a research to find out the origins of my dogs. I was very disappointed to find that both of my dogs originated from commercial dog breeders (puppy mills). One in Missouri and one in Nebraska. If you have purchased a puppy from Steve's, check your paper work and search the breeder online. \r
\r
Though the puppies are treated well at Steve's and the staff there is friendly and knowledgeable, it doesn't change the fact that the parents of these dogs are living under terrible conditions. Not to mention that the dogs are outrageously expensive and their health history is not available. When I purchased my first dog, I bought her directly from Steve who assured me that his wife visited each breeder and that they only purchased dogs from reputable breeders. I guess I should have pressed more and had him define ""reputable"". \r
\r
I also have 3 friends who purchased dogs from Steve's at the same time that I purchased my puppy this past summer. We all purchased puppies within weeks of each other. All of their puppies had kennel cough and needed to be treated with antibiotics. Steve's did honor their word and paid for the medical expenses for these puppies. However, a co-worker of mine who purchased a puppy a couple years back, had more serious health issues. Steve's would not pay the medical bills but Instead told her to return the dog and pick out a new dog. Of course, she was already in love with her puppy and paid the expenses out of her own pocket and swore off Steve's Pets.\r
\r
I recently visited one of these commercial pet breeders when a friend purchased her puppy. The dogs were dirty and scared and afraid of human contact. I guess I have to admit my own ignorance and stupidity. I will not overpay for a dog from Steve's again. \r
