Review content:
I came to your facility for an oil change and to have my tires evaluated for excessive wear. I have a set of 55,000 mile tires that have 22,000 miles on them and 3-4/32" of tread left. I was told that I would need to keep driving the tires until they had 2/32" tread and then pay for an alignment and then "we could send in the tires and see what they say". I've been a customer of yours for over 30 years and this is the first time that I've purchased a product that did not meet my expectations. Seeing only 40% of the guaranteed tread wear on a tire is unacceptable. If I was in your business asking for warranty protection at 70-80% of guaranteed tread wear, I could see why you might pause. At 40%... I think I have a legitimate concern. All of tires are within 1/32" tread wear, so that would indicate that they've been rotated. These Altimax tires are unidirectional and so they're only been on one side of the car. After I left your facility, I had my car aligned. Three of the tires were within alignment specs and the 4th - right front, was just marginally out. How could the alignment of one front wheel cause an entire set of tires on an all wheel drive car to wear out prematurely and evenly?
Additionally, what do I say to my son as I send him off to college with 3/32" tread on his tires?
I really think the issue here is that the Altimax tire does not perform well on an all wheel drive vehichle and should never have been suggested. I have another set of the Altimax tires on my daughter's Honda Accord and they have 40,000+ on them and they are wearing just fine, which is why I was encouraged to purchase them for the Subaru.
I have always been under the impression that you stood behind the products you sell and I am very disappointed with this experience. I used to bring my kids out with me when I came for tires and service so they could see how it's done right. I can no longer do that.....
