I was a patient there in 2002 thru 2003 for my first pregnancy and I was seeing Dr. White. She was brand new to the practice at the time, pregnant herself and very nice. When I was about 23 weeks pregnant I rushed to their office in West Ashly, in labor. Dr. White was unfortunately in the West Ashly office and I had to see Dr. Osbourne. While I was on his table profusely bleeding and in horrendous pain he starts to tell his nurse this story how many years ago when he was working in the ER at a hospital when some pregnant woman came in bleeding from head to toe - I found this story to be horrifying - especially given my present circumstance. he then stopped in mid story to tell my ""your bag is bulging"" I was in complete labor. his nurse was so nice and took me in her own car to East Cooper right away for admittance. Dr. White was there right away, i was dialated and in full labor and so they gave me ""anti"" labor medicine - altho i did hear Dr. White ask the nurse how much she thought I should be given?! Anyway, it did not work, my cervix continued to dialate etc. I was in labor for 24hours. The next morning when it was time to deliver Dr. White was gone and it was Dr. Osbourne there, he actually said to the nurse just seconds before I deliverd my son ""do you have the DOA papers ready?"" I blasted him stating my son was ALIVE! Seconds later my little boy was born - and yes very much alive. They whiskd him away - I thought great they were going to help him! Everything would be ok! when they brought him back to me 5 to 10 minutes later I ws floored - see they did not have a NICU unit there, the closest NICU unit was at MUSC, which they refused him based on the amount of time it would take to get him there and he was losing oxygen - so the brain damage based on that time amount would of been severe. So they brought my little angel boy back to me, where he lied quietly in my arms and took nearly 3 hours to pass away. It was HORRIBLE. I ahd never been so devastated in my life. The thing is, I should of NEVER been at E. Cooper then. I was in so much labor pain and distraught I did not bother to ask if there was a NICU unit - I figured the doctors knew what they were doing right?? Since they knew the baby was coimg - and there was so much time (24hrs) they should of immediatly had me transferred to MUSC. And then after he passed and he was taken by the funeral home, I wnted to be transferred off the maternity ward right away, there was a lady across the hall from me who ahd a healthy baby and you could see the happy family and ballons and such - my door was decorated in Angels and crosses and I had nothing but crying people outside my room which I know was hard for the happy family to see. Then when i wanted some fresh air outside I was wheeled every time past the nursery - that was the only way out. I begged them to get me off that unit, I begged them to discharge me to no avail. I was finally let go a few days later and I was able to bury my son. But I can;t help but think back and wonder why they never transferred me to another hospital? Why did they keep me some place that could offer No help to my son? Was it greed?? Did they want the money? And Dr. Osbourns crass and rude behavior during the worst time of my life was unaccaptable also. I saw Dr. White again after for a check up, I did find her to be very nice, easy to talk to and I genuinally liked her - I just found her to be a very ""new"" doctor - I am sure she is even more experienced now. I am pregnant now again for the first time since and due to my past history am in the high risk catagory. I am unfortunately in NYC now and having a hard time finding a doctor that i am satisfied with. Dr. White andthe practice seemed great - just beware if you have any pregnancy complications - and east Cooper definitely is not the place to go for that! Pros: Not Familiar in High Risk Cons: Dr. White is nice
