Review content:
Greater Providence has gone from a one steak town to a burgeoning beef capital. The best of the lot isn't the big name chains. Move over Capital Grille, Ruth's Chris and Shula's. Make room for Fred & Steve's Steakhouse. This new restaurant opened in the spring at the recently renovated Twin Rivers casino in Lincoln. We joined a diverse group for Father's Day (actually the night before). Bottom line: this was the best steak we've had in years, if not ever. Everything was cooked to perfection; personal favorites include the Kansas City and Cowboy steaks, the lobster bisque (in a delightful presentation), the shaved corn, creamed spinach, potato wedges and shrimp scampi. Over the years, our group has gathered at some of the best restaurants in Providence and Boston. None was better than Fred & Steve's. In fact, we're already planning to meet again later this month. Also worth mentioning is the staff, very attentative and well prepared. Finally a steakhouse worthy of five stars. Better service than the pretenious Capital Grill, better steaks than the ridiculously over prices, over-hyped Ruth's Chris and better surroundings than the sports bar Shula's. The owners, former football stars Fred Smerlas and Steve Deossie, were also at the restaurant and smozed with the customers. We've been to Michael Jordan's in Connecticut a couple of dozen times and have never once seen the namesake.
Pros: Excellent steaks, great service, inviting atmosphere
Cons: Couldn't get reservations until after 9p despite calling two weeks in advance
