As a former student at Aveda, I have incredibly mixed feelings about the Chapel Hill institute. On one hand, staying busy with back to back clients during my time there left me better prepared as a stylist than anyone I know coming from different schools. On the other hand, I was appalled by their treatment of students and their failure to hire licensed, qualified cosmetology teacher. They try to advertise the institute as a place that nurture's stylist's creativity but this place is basically run as a sweat shop and the administrative staff care about money first and the education of their students last. I did not receive the minimum requirements for classroom hours and was often left to figure out how to do hair for myself. The classroom work I did receive was mostly training for the state board exams and very little practical education. \r
