I had a problem with the transmission on my Mazda MPV. I took it to the dealership. They said that I needed to replace the transmission. I asked for an explanation why and was not given very good information on what the problem was. When pressed for an answer, the service consultant said that they would not diagnose the problem with the transmission -- rather they identified that there was a problem and the solution was to replace the entire thing, which I was told would cost $4,700. A day later I was told the price was $3,700. Rather than have the dealer fix the transmission, I took the car to Meineke in Sterling and they figured out that my transmission was fine. There was a problem with the transmission control module, which they replaced for thousands less than the dealership. The guys at Meineke were great. They did what they said they would do and the cost was reasonable given the magnitude of the problem.
