Review content:
Although I like the equipment at Urban Active, and it is convenient for me--I cannot give this gym more than one star due to the appalling way customers are treated. First, I took a leave of absense due to some surgery. I had a doctor's note. Although there was a fee, I was supposed to have my monthly membership dues put on hold for 2 months. This did not happen and when I came to inquire about it, I was told that my credit would be ruined if I refused to pay. Despite these problems, I gave the gym another chance becasue it is so convenient and I have a personal trainer I like. When my contract expired, I negotiated a new contract at a better rate. However, my credit card was overcharged for 3 months. I did not realize it at first because I had some medical problems but discovered the problem by the second month. The gym owed me the amount of $100. I came in to talk to someone in charge--this proved quite difficult. First I was told that my contract had never been scanned into the computer. I brought it in on 4 separate occassions so it could be scanned in--but each time I came back, I was again told, it could not be found. In the third month, I told the manager that I would have my credit card stop payments because my card was again charged with the wrong amount and I had still not been reimbursed. Her response was that they would ruin my credit! Such wonderful customer service! This manager was fired shortly thereafter. I ended up overpaying the third month before I resolved the issue with my credit card company--so Urban Active now owes me $150.00. The correct amount started appearing on my credit card statement, but I was not reimbursed for the months I was overcharged. I decided to keep my membership (again becasue of the convenience and my trainer) but to work on getting reimbursed. I was happy when a nicer, new manager was hired, but alas, it has now been almost a year and I have not seen one penny of the $150.00. The people I have worked with in resolving this have repeatedly told me that the money was credited to my credit card account. I have actually had to bring in my records to prove to them that this was not done! Then they told me a check had been mailed to me! It is funny that i did not receive such check yet have never missed any of the junk mail they send out. If I call the gym, no one ever returns my call. It has been so frustrating. And I have been treated quite rudely by most of the staff. I can't believe they would be so ready to upset and anger their customers over $150.00. Is that really worth it to them? I can't believe I spent so much time and energy trying to get the money back. It seems a lawsuit is the only way to resolve this matter. Of course, I am an idiot for staying there as long as I did. Convenience and training is not worth being treated the way this gym treats their customers.
