I have 2 children that have been treated by Dr. Holmes. The first thing you will learn about him is that you'll never have to wait in his office. You're in on time, he's in the room with you quickly, gets to the point, and you're done! That can be great but if you're unprepared it can leave you feeling like you have a lot of unanswered questions. I'd make sure you have a list ready and that you keep him in the room until you're confident you've asked all you need to and had him explain his answers. My daughter's surgery was for tubes because she couldn't hear. He did a hearing test, suggested surgery, we scheduled it right away, it was easy and quick and she's been able to hear ever since. She did get one ear infection right afterwards but he treated that and she's perfect now. My son's surgery was for his sinuses. We actually went to see Dr. Holmes first 5 years ago and I thought the suggestion of surgery was a bit much for a 10 year old so we got a 2nd opinion and treated him with medications instead. Last year we went in for additional sinus issues and agreed to the surgery. 5 procedures and my son had reduced sinus symptoms for about a week after the surgery but then developed some complications that required a second surgery 3 months later. The surgery was a success but my son has never gotten any relief from the surgery and is back to his old symptoms (with admittedly slightly fewer sinus infections). My son was recently seen at UNC where they found he had a tumor in his head. I called Dr. Holmes office to request copies of the CT scans he did to use as a comparison. Not only were they provided to me the next day but Dr. Holmes called me personally to check on my son and to assure me that he went over the scans personally and saw nothing that would say my son had the tumor back then. The UNC docs agree. I appreciated the time he took and that he cared about my son and his health. So, my suggestion is to just be ready to get all your questions asked and answered. Make sure you keep him in the room. Also, everyone I know who has ever been treated by Dr. Holmes has raved about him but they all have also had surgery from him. I'm not sure how often he suggests less intrusive treatments.
