Editorial review from Citysearch 10/23/2013

Although Dr Holmes is very knowledge, I dont think his attitude is quite nice. I should have posted my rating for him long time ago, but I just didnt get a chance to. It was in April this year, I believe it was April 1 or March 31. My mom lost hearing in one of her ears around that time, and had steroid injection surgery by Dr Holmes. After her surgery that day, my mom had some questions for him. And with the broken English she speaks, I called Dr Holmes for my mom. It was almost 5pm when I called, it happened that Dr Holmes picked up the phone., I didnt expect tot talk to him, I was just expecting to talk to a nurse. So anyway, since he picked up the phone, I began to ask him the questions, and I think maybe it's the end of day, he was very rude on the phone with me, he somewhat raised his voice at me, just wasnt polite. Then I was hesitate to ask him more or all of my questions. Dont get me wrong, he is a very knowledgeable doctor, but his attitude just wasnt too nice on that day. more

2 kids, 2 surgeries, 1 perfect, 1 didn't change much 12/6/2011

I have 2 children that have been treated by Dr. Holmes. The first thing you will learn about him is that you'll never have to wait in his office. You're in on time, he's in the room with you quickly, gets to the point, and you're done! That can be great but if you're unprepared it can leave you feeling like you have a lot of unanswered questions. I'd make sure you have a list ready and that you keep him in the room until you're confident you've asked all you need to and had him explain his answers. My daughter's surgery was for tubes because she couldn't hear. He did a hearing test, suggested surgery, we scheduled it right away, it was easy and quick and she's been able to hear ever since. She did get one ear infection right afterwards but he treated that and she's perfect now. My son's surgery was for his sinuses. We actually went to see Dr. Holmes first 5 years ago and I thought the suggestion of surgery was a bit much for a 10 year old so we got a 2nd opinion and treated him with medications instead. Last year we went in for additional sinus issues and agreed to the surgery. 5 procedures and my son had reduced sinus symptoms for about a week after the surgery but then developed some complications that required a second surgery 3 months later. The surgery was a success but my son has never gotten any relief from the surgery and is back to his old symptoms (with admittedly slightly fewer sinus infections). My son was recently seen at UNC where they found he had a tumor in his head. I called Dr. Holmes office to request copies of the CT scans he did to use as a comparison. Not only were they provided to me the next day but Dr. Holmes called me personally to check on my son and to assure me that he went over the scans personally and saw nothing that would say my son had the tumor back then. The UNC docs agree. I appreciated the time he took and that he cared about my son and his health. So, my suggestion is to just be ready to get all your questions asked and answered. Make sure you keep him in the room. Also, everyone I know who has ever been treated by Dr. Holmes has raved about him but they all have also had surgery from him. I'm not sure how often he suggests less intrusive treatments. more

5 Minutes. 3/16/2011

I've now seen Dr. Young 3 times. The last 2 visits were very abrupt, lasting less than 5 minutes each (one of them was a post surgery follow up, the second was today when I had the same complaints the surgeries were supposed to fix!) He only wanted to give me prescriptions or pawn me off to other specialists. His nursing staff is always very nice, but I would rather drive to Chapel Hill than waste time on him again. more

Worst experience I have had with all healthcare providers! 6/28/2010

1. They did two basic hearing tests. But I need more help than they gave me. They showed me no results gave me no reason to believe I was fine. They told I was fine but without an explanation and results this means nothing. Pros: they were fast. Cons: they were so fast I felt ignored!!! more
