I recently had Coit clean all the floors (carpet and hardwood) in my home before moving back in (it had been vacant for several months and hadn't been deep-cleaned in years). While carpet cleaning is fairly straightforward, I was most concerned with how they would clean the wood floors. The sales person who provided an in-home estimate took a look at my wood floors and promised all the build-up of dirt and "gunk" from over the years would be removed and the floors would be restored almost to the original look (of course, the scratches wouldn't be removed since they don't sand down the floors and I understood that). I was told there would be a couple of people coming to the home and that the entire job would take 4-6 hours.
On the day of service, ONE technician arrived at about 9:30 a.m (an hour later than I was told) and I gave him a quick run-down of the work COIT had agreed to perform. After I was confident he understood everything, I left the home and he began working.
At about 3:30 or 4 p.m., I had not yet heard from him and assumed he was just about done, so I called the technician directly. He told me had run into some issues with the wood apparently, there had been excessive wax build-up from the cleaning product our tenants had used and the products he was using were not able to strip off the wax. I was frustrated by this news for two reasons: 1) the sales person had never indicated this would be an issue, and 2) the technician had not contacted me when first noticing this issue.
I went back to the house to take a look and discovered exactly what he was referring to while sections of the wood had been cleaned, others looked horrendous. The results were very inconsistent. To the technician's credit, he arranged with his office to come back out two days later to finish the job. Before we left for the day, I noted two additional concerns: 1) our baseboards were filthy from all of the dirt that had come up from the wood floors, and 2) he had cleaned a 12x12 carpet and rolled it up (which I was concerned would not allow it to properly dry he promised it wouldn't be an issue).
On Saturday, the technician returned again late (he said he had to stop at Home Depot to pick up materials, which made me feel like I had hired some random day laborer to clean my floors instead of a professional company with their own products). He spent the entire day finishing the job and the wood floors did look much better when he was done though he was never able to strip off the wax around the edge of the walls or in the corners.
Even worse, when I returned the day AFTER the work was done, the baseboards were still filthy and my 12x12 area carpet was dry but reeked to high heaven of mildew (we actually had to throw it out!).
I called COIT to complain and after two additional calls (they didn't return my first call as promised), I was able to get a refund for a portion of the wood floor cleaning. It still didn't cover the cost of the new carpet we had to buy, and we still had to spend quite a bit of time cleaning the baseboards.
In summary, I will never again use COIT, nor will I ever recommend them. I should have paid just a bit more and had the wood floors re-coated by a professional wood restoration company. Live and learn, I guess.
