Took my 2004 Durango (42,000 miles) to Vero Beach Chrysler, Dodge. Told them there was a small leak in the A/C,""that'll be a charge of $97.00"" they said. I don't need diagnostics! Long story short, after sitting in their waiting room for 9 hours, and they having replaced the evaporator coil under the dash. They come to me and say, it's not blowing cold air, but cool air. They brought it around and A/C was blowing HOT air. (five minutes had gone by) You need a new compressor! WHAT? The likely hood of both going out is insane. They put on a new compressor and said it was fixed. Six weeks later it's blowing warm air once again. This time they put DYE in the system to find the leak. (Same leak I went in for) Six weeks later again warm air. No dye was found. The rear air as we discovered would blow cold air out the front ducts when turned on.(Impossible the service manager said) So to make me look like an idiot, she insisted we take a ride. I turned on the rear air and cold air came out in abundance. Now who's the idiot? Now they get serious, and find a minor leak in one of the hoses at a valve. Same leak I had when I came in, but $2600.00 had leaked out of my wallet. Here's the clincher. I worked with Chrysler Parts for 39 years, and never heard of an alternator and evaporator coil going at the same time. They replaced just what they wanted to to make money. The diagnostics had nothing to do with the A/C unit at all. OH YES, ALMOST FORGOT, They replaced the hose for free.
