Review content:
My three year old healthy mini schnauzer was sick last week. Wouldn't come out of his crate. Took him on Tuesday to my local vet All Pets Health in Spring Hill, TN b/c he was definitely not himself. I was told his platelet count was around 78,000 which was a little low considering normal ranges are around 200,000. They prescribed Prednisone, a muscle relaxer and a pain med b/c they also said he had back pain. Two days on the meds, my pup wouldn't eat.\r
\r
They ran tests again on him on Friday and saw his platelet count had increased 10,000. Saturday he still wasn't eating so we made him some fresh chicken and rice. He did eat some chicken but threw it up multiple times during the evening and had bloody stool.\r
\r
On Sunday morning, he was again not wanting to get up and I had to drag him out of the crate to go to the bathroom. He still wouldn't eat and still had bloody stool. I decided to take him to Blue Pearl. They immediately put him on fluids and an antibiotic. At this point, I still had no idea what was wrong with my dog. Were these side effects from the medication or was it a fluke that we stumbled upon his low platelets from running blood work? They called their internal medicine vet and he basically told us we had to spend up to $3,000 to run more test to establish what was wrong with our pet. Meanwhile he was declining.\r
\r
Two days later, $2,000 later, basically Blue Pearl told me that I should put down my 3 year old puppy who had never had any health issues. Very disturbed and upset I spoke with my father who mentioned I should contact his vet. I did that immediately and was told to transfer my pup over to Dr. Fly at the Nolensville Animal Hospital in Nolensville, TN. I did that and 2 days later and only $700, my pup is eating again, blood work is gradually increasing back to normal levels and he is feeling more like his old self again. Please, please take my advice and seek second opinions b/c it felt like if you didn't have thousands of dollars to throw at Blue Pearl, then there recommendation is just to put your loved one down.\r
