I wouldn't recommend them to friends. They set our house up with numerous features: phone system; speakers throughout the house with radio/CD player/surround sound for TVs/TV entertainment systems (a theater room too)/security system (over $20,000). We've not had any direct problems with installation procedures but when have service recommendations done it seems as though they take the easy way out by simply throwing in new products, we have had other (local, not big namers like AVP) come in for second opinions when working with expensive problems. Every time (4 total) AVP has a solution but the locals are more effective and much cheaper. To give you an idea, the last problem was with the theater room not working properly and AVP said it could be fixed with buying a new system and that our was outdated, trash, and we received a $5,760 estimate. The local guy from town came in and took one specific piece that wasn't working and it cost us 4 days and just over $200. \r
One more thing: I am fairly knowledgeable with knowing how to hook these thing up and operate them. In trying to plug a new sub woofer to replace the broken one I had to have them come do it at full cost because NONE of the wiring was labeled. I felt bad for the man sent out and helped him try to identify wires (it didn't simply pug into the receiver). They had different people take care of installation on each floor with the exception of the security and the theater. The main floor is ""coded"" in HIS language, talk about job security! \r
I'm in the construction industry and now have a local company (5-10 men) from Hastings MN take care of buildings and houses where quality matters in the long-run.
Pros: Big selection. Smart people.
Cons: Comes off as sloppy work when inspected.
