This is a terrible cemetery. I don't mean to be disrespectful to those who have loved ones buried here but this was the saddest place I have ever been to. I took my girlfriend here this week to visit her father's grave because she had never been before (he died when she was very young.) It was raining very heavily that day. Many of the grave sites were flooded. There was garbage blowing around the cemetery. The grass is missing in large patches all over the place. The cemetery is built on a hill that is mostly clay rather than dirt so on a rainy day it is a terrible place to vist and all the water runs down towards the bottom of the cemetery. There were several cement tombs above ground stacked on top of each other. I assume no body is buried in them but who knows. One of the tombs was missing its lid and it was filled with water and garbage. Many of the headstones are damaged and some are so close to the roads (which doesn't have a curb, you have to be careful not to drive over them. I am sure funds are limited as the city of Baltimore and Baltimore County is very poor. However, this place is a disgrace. My girlfriend was so sad to know her father is buried in such a bad place. Helpful bit of advice. There is no sextant there to help find graves. You have to call a phone number located at the cemetery and they will tell you which section, row and lot your loved one is in. However, most of the rows and lots are not marked so you have no way to tell other than looking for headstones. If your loved one is in an unmarked grave (like my girlfriend's father) you need to call the number and they will mark the grave so you can find it. However, they told us this would be done but when we went back the next day it was not marked. Thankfully the workers there were very helpful and showed us where about his grave was. Perhaps this place was nicer in 2009 but it is terrible now. We are going to start the process of getting a court order so we can move him to a better cemetery. This is no place for anyone you care about to be buried.
