I visited Mount Zion Cemetery on April 9, 2013 to conduct some family history research. I observed many of the same things that reviewers Andrew S and OldschoolJock1 mentioned in their reviews. My overall impression is that the cemetery is poorly managed and unsightly. The arch entrance to the cemetery needs to be painted. The paint is faded and peeling. The fence around the cemetery is completely overgrown with dead vines. \r

There are three entrances to the cemetery. In addition to the main entrance, there is a second entrance on Hollins Ferry Road and a third on the adjacent street. I was very surprised to see that there are only three roads in the cemetery and each one is only one lane wide. While I was in the cemetery, a work crew had its vehicle parked on one of the roads. In order for me to move to that section of the cemetery, I had to exit the cemetery and drive around to the side entrance to access that part of the cemetery. \r

There is no office or staff at the cemetery. You have to call a number on a sign in the cemetery to get assistance in locating a gravesite. I called the number but the telephone number had changed. I called the new number and got a recording that informed me to leave a message. I explained that I need assistance in locating three family members. I provided the names and my cell phone number. At the time of this review, it has been approximately four hours since I left the cemetery and I have not received a response.\r

The cemetery is in general disrepair. Many of the white signs identifying the cemetery sections were leaning and some were broken in half. Numerous headstones are installed at the very edge of the road. I saw a pile of engraved headstones stacked on pallets to the left of the main entrance. There is a storage shed to the left of the road immediately as you enter the cemetery. There is a pile of assorted “stuff” piled there. \r

I saw two concrete burial vaults sitting above ground. One had the top missing and it was filled with old flowers and vases. It appeared that it is being used as a trash receptacle. The dumpster that someone mentioned is still there. The entire cemetery grounds contain large bare earth segments with no grass. I can only guess that the workers are plating grass seeds but it look awful. I did not see trash on the grounds but numerous graves had dead or faded flowers.\r

I would not recommend that anyone bury their loved ones in the cemetery.\r
