Review content:
Winks is good in general, having probably one of the best hardware selections in Portland. But, remember that the sales people are just ""sales people"" -- they want to sell product. If you rely on their expertese or their knowledge of the quality of the the products they sell, you will get shortchanged. We were looking for a superior quality star drive 3"" self tapping wood screw to put together some temporary architectural concrete formwork. We wanted a hardened screw that would not break off when removed (my pet peeve with cheap screws made in China). The salesman assured me that the screws we were purchasing were the best. We were in for a rude surprise when we tried to remove these screws -- at least one out of five would break at the junction of the thread to the shaft. We have since gone to Portland Fasteners who sell GRK brand screws and they have performed better than any screw I have ever used, and they are not made in China. We contributed the remaining Winks screws to the ReBuilding Center and have marked Winks as our vender of last resort. Pros: Huge selection Cons: High prices, mix of experience of salespeople
