We read so many reviews before choosing this place to dine. We frequent Laguna Beach at least once a year and have always had amazing food. Let me tell you how THIS particular evening went........\r \r We show up @ 5:10, when they open at five. We say there are two of us for dinner- the chef herself seats us & says that they have someone w/reservations coming in for that table at 7, so we have to be done by then. Okay, sure, we can do that. We order the conch fritters- they are extremely crispy and runny in the middle. We ordered the brown suga signature cocktail- good & verrry sweet. Hubby has a mojito for the next round- it has not been muddled- it tastes as though someone poured rumplemints w/rum & threw in a few mint leaves in for decoration. Sooo not Caribbean! The fish of the day was Snapper- totally covered in curry sauce- thank God we like curry. The jerk rib eye was very mediocre (my hubby can cook a better steak). It was better, only when dipped in the snapper's curry sauce. We decided to order Key Lime Pie for dessert. It was frozen lime sorbet w/mint shavings for garnish, on a pie crust. It tasted more like a mojito pie than key lime pie. We went to Key West earlier this year, so authenticity was fresh in our minds, but it seems that Eva has never been to the Caribbean... If she has, she hasn't learned any authentic recipes. Not a horrible place, but for 122 before tip, we were not satisfied with the mediocre offerings and renditions of Caribbean recipes.
